UN Secretary General Accuses Israel of Spreading Disinformation

"I have heard from the same source many times that I have never opposed Hamas, I have never condemned Hamas, that I am a supporter of Hamas," Mr. Guterres said at a press conference on information integrity, referring specifically to Israel.

"I have condemned Hamas 102 times, 51 times in official speeches, other times on various social platforms," he said. "The truth always wins in the end."

However, Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan said Guterres' condemnations were "empty words compared to his actions".

Relations between the United Nations and Israel have long been strained and have worsened during the Israel-Hamas war.

Israel has accused the United Nations of bias against it and of UN staff working with Hamas and other militants. The UN is investigating some of the allegations, but says in many cases it has not yet received evidence from Israel.
