On the morning of November 13 (local time, 11:00 p.m. the same day Vietnam time), US President Joe Biden met with President-elect Donald Trump in the Oval Office at the White House, Washington, DC, USA.
This is the first time Mr. Trump has returned to the US office of power since leaving four years ago.

According to the New York Times, Mr. Biden welcomed Mr. Trump and said he hoped the transition would be smooth. Mr. Trump responded that he appreciated that, and the transition "will be as smooth as possible."
Before meeting with Mr Biden, Mr Trump visited with House Republicans. President-elect Trump said Republicans were likely to hold a majority when all the races were called. But he told attendees that the margin “doesn’t matter.”
The last meeting between President-elect Trump and President Biden a few months ago was not a friendly one. At a debate in Atlanta in June, Mr. Biden criticized Mr. Trump for his legal troubles and some of his ethical views, while Mr. Trump criticized Mr. Biden for his relationship with China.

In 2016, after Trump defeated Hillary Clinton, then-President Barack Obama also invited Trump to the Oval Office. Their closed-door meeting, which was scheduled to last less than half an hour, lasted nearly 90 minutes. After it ended, Trump thanked Obama and said he looked forward to receiving his advice and counsel during his presidency.
President-elect Donald Trump's wife, Melania Trump, will not accompany him to the White House, despite receiving an invitation from current first lady Jill Biden.
In another development, US Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith, who has pursued two federal prosecutions against Donald Trump, plans to resign early before Trump returns.
The New York Times source said Mr. Smith's goal was to not leave any important work for others to complete and to anticipate the president-elect's words about firing Smith "within two seconds" of being sworn in.
