General Secretary and President To Lam meets with the Vietnam Innovation Network in the United States

VOV.VN - On the occasion of attending the High-level Week of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and working in the United States, on the afternoon of September 23 (local time), General Secretary and President To Lam had a meeting with members of the Vietnam Innovation Network and Vietnamese experts in the United States.
The Vietnam Innovation Network under the National Innovation Center was established by the Ministry of Planning and Investment with the goal of connecting the world's leading Vietnamese science and technology experts with practical domestic needs to attract and effectively use intellectual resources to serve the country's socio-economic development. Currently, there are two Innovation Networks on the East and West coasts in the United States, including talents in technology, finance, law, administration and other important fields. Reporting at the meeting, the representative of the leadership of the Vietnam Innovation Network in the United States said that the Network's activities have achieved many remarkable achievements, attracting the participation of thousands of businesses to participate in its activities. Many members of the network have moved their company headquarters to Vietnam, not only bringing economic benefits but also contributing to technology transfer to domestic enterprises, while creating many jobs for workers. In the future, the Vietnam Innovation Network in the United States hopes to continue implementing startup support activities to build a startup community that shares with each other to grow together, contribute to the development of the host country and promote the startup ecosystem in Vietnam.

Some experts who are members of the Network shared their experiences in developing the semiconductor industry. Accordingly, Vietnam needs to focus on developing human resources, especially high-quality human resources; increase foreign investment attraction, focusing on the field of research and development. On the other hand, Vietnam also needs to have a strategy for business development, market development; increase many specialized seminars to attract talented minds to contribute to the development of this field. The experts also expressed their desire to introduce more businesses to invest in Vietnam; at the same time, they hope that the Vietnamese Government will have appropriate policies and mechanisms for businesses to invest effectively, attracting the contributions of businesses more and more effectively.

Speaking at the reception, General Secretary and President To Lam expressed his pleasure at attending and listening to the opinions and suggestions of the community of experts, intellectuals and members of the Vietnam Innovation Network in the United States to carry out the common task of contributing to the development of high technology and innovation in the country; stating that this is an opportunity to look back at the achievements and discuss the upcoming directions and goals in connecting knowledge, experience and resources between Vietnam and the community of Vietnamese experts in the United States. Emphasizing that the country is facing a new historical moment, a new era, an era of national growth, the General Secretary and President said that this is also a period of important strategic opportunities, the final stage of the Vietnamese Revolution to achieve the goal of 100 years under the leadership of the Party, 100 years of the founding of the country. The emergence and development of cyberspace along with the 4th industrial revolution with unprecedented scale and speed, brings a new era in which underdeveloped and developing countries can take advantage of opportunities, take shortcuts, develop rapidly, rise to become powerful countries or be left behind in the growth race if they do not take advantage of opportunities. The General Secretary and President acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Planning and Investment in forming and developing the Vietnam Innovation Network in recent times, especially the active contributions of Network members as well as Vietnamese experts in the United States in participating in major national programs and projects, efforts of great significance in promoting the role and resources of the community of Vietnamese experts and intellectuals around the world who directly participate in contributing to and improving the country's scientific and technological capacity and innovation. The General Secretary and President pointed out that after Vietnam and the United States upgraded their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the Joint Statement between the two countries agreed to promote cooperation in training and improving capacity in semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI) so that Vietnam can participate in the global value chain; At the same time, he emphasized that to do that, Vietnam needs to focus on building high-quality human resources to meet future development needs in the direction of digital transformation and green transformation based on innovation. Believing that this is a field that will create major breakthroughs, helping Vietnam not only strengthen its position in the international arena but also participate more effectively in the global science and technology market, the General Secretary and President suggested that the Vietnam Innovation Network in the United States continue to promote its connecting role, expand the participation of new members and enhance cooperation between Vietnamese and international experts and intellectuals, for the long-term benefits of the country, helping Vietnam move closer to the goal of development based on science, technology and innovation. The General Secretary and President affirmed that the extensive participation of the Vietnamese expert and intellectual community around the world not only contributes to solving technical and technological challenges but also opens up new opportunities for extensive cooperation in science, technology and innovation with leading partners in the world. The General Secretary and President said that the Vietnam Innovation Network needs to build stronger international links, share knowledge and apply advanced technological advances to the country's development process; promote the role of a bridge of knowledge and technology, bringing the world's quintessence and progress to Vietnam. The General Secretary and President believes that close coordination at home and abroad, between agencies and organizations of the system is a decisive factor, creating a combined strength, helping to achieve major goals, with breakthrough significance for Vietnam to achieve its growth target based on the foundation of high-tech science and innovation development in the new era.
