In the direction north of Pokrovsk, in recent days, the Ukrainian army (AFU) has launched a lightning counterattack. But one thing is certain, the discovery of the Russian army (RFAF) in July was correct, the city of Pokrovsk was almost empty. But what they did not expect was that deep behind, the AFU was hiding a large number of reserve troops. The Russian infiltration attacks inside and northeast of Pokrovsk copied the tactics of the North Korean army. On the Kursk battlefield, the North Koreans deployed large numbers of elite infantry, to conduct dispersed infiltration attacks, using small groups.
With such tactics, the Russian army penetrated the Ukrainian defense line and established many strongholds in the Ukrainian rear, to support the attack of the Russian frontline battle group. However, after the Russian army entered the Ukrainian rear and the city of Pokrovsk, they were counterattacked by the Ukrainian mechanized forces. The Russian breakthrough force was all light infantry, lacking heavy weapons, so although they gained ground, they were unable to hold their positions and had to retreat. They lost control of important junctions, leading to the collapse of many sections of the front line. In the direction north of Pokrovsk, the RFAF achieved a breakthrough at the village of Zolotyi Kolodyaz, and now they were just a step away from success. However, the AFU withdrew the defeated 33rd Motorized Infantry Brigade to the city of Dobropilya and replaced it with the 12th Azov Brigade to launch a counterattack. It should be noted that the key members of the 12th Azov Brigade, all members of the Azov Battalion, were captured in Mariupol and released in the Russian-Ukrainian prisoner exchange. This unit fought tenaciously and dared to launch counterattacks. The AFU counterattack force included the 2nd Fighter Battalion of the 12th Azov Brigade, the 2nd Da Vinci Fighter Battalion of the 1st Assault Regiment, and the 3rd Battalion of the 14th Brigade of the National Guard. Forming a three-battalion combat formation.
The most intense Ukrainian counterattack came from the 2nd Fighter Battalion of the 12th Azov Brigade. The battalion, after opening an 800-meter-wide gap towards the village of Vilne, began to penetrate forward. They have now advanced 4 kilometers, posing a threat to the Russian defenses at the village of Kucheriv Yar. This cross-attack by the 12th Azov Brigade could lead to the division and encirclement of the Russian forces at Kucheriv Yar. In this direction, the strongest Russian unit, the 114th Motorized Rifle Brigade, also known as the “Beast”, was the main fighting force. The Russian 114th Motorized Infantry Brigade, the 93rd Brigade, and the Ukrainian 12th Azov Brigade are facing each other, and they don't need to probe. When the two sides meet, once they engage, it will be a life-and-death battle. However, the Russian 114th Brigade will need time to reach the breakthrough point and close the gap. While the RFAF infantry had not yet mobilized their forces to the designated positions to close the gap, the Russian Aerospace Forces were indeed very strong. Su-34 fighter-bombers immediately launched attacks with FAB-500 glide bombs, on the deployment positions of the 2nd Azov Battalion surrounding the opening area. After the detonation of 12 FAB UMPK guided bombs, it seemed to have worked. The 2nd Azov Battalion had paused its attack for the past 24 hours; several assault echelons had likely been destroyed. The RFAF was fighting with sheer force; if infantry failed to destroy the enemy, artillery bombardment would take over. Meanwhile, the West is also helping Ukraine quickly restore its ability to produce tracked armored fighting vehicles. Although Ukraine prefers the US-made M2A2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicle, and the US currently has a large number of M2A2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, they have stopped producing this type of vehicle. However, President Trump does not want to sell it to Ukraine.
Recently, Ukraine and Sweden signed an agreement to promote the localization of the CV-90 and the production of this infantry fighting vehicle in Ukraine. The 40mm cannon version of the CV-90 infantry fighting vehicle does not have strong firepower, so Ukraine is interested in the 35mm cannon version. The CV-90 infantry fighting vehicle is a tracked infantry fighting vehicle, well suited to the Ukrainian battlefield. Its excellent protection, user-friendly design and superior camouflage capabilities make it a reliable vehicle for soldiers. The Ukrainian-Swedish contract will see the production of 1,000 CV-90s, but the process will take time, and AFU will not be able to receive them immediately. At the same time, the Wall Street Journal reported that Norway and Germany will jointly order two Patriot air defense missile battalions for Ukraine, with Norway contributing $694 million.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that Canada has committed to providing 2 billion Canadian dollars (about 1.44 billion USD) in military aid to Ukraine by June 2025, of which about 1 billion Canadian dollars will be in UAVs, ammunition and armored vehicles; and these weapons will arrive in Ukraine next September.
