Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang meets with the Vietnamese community in the Netherlands

Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang met with overseas Vietnamese in the Netherlands, informed about new policies, called on the community to unite, preserve culture and contribute to the country.

On the morning of July 12, a delegation of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, met with representatives of the Vietnamese community in the Netherlands at the Embassy in The Hague. Attending the meeting were Vietnamese Ambassador to the Netherlands Ngo Huong Nam, embassy officials and more than 40 overseas Vietnamese from various localities in the Netherlands.

After the welcoming performance by overseas Vietnamese associations, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Netherlands Ngo Huong Nam introduced the situation of the Vietnamese community in the Netherlands and the work of the Embassy on Vietnamese people.

According to the Ambassador, as of July 2025, the Vietnamese community in the Netherlands currently has 27,237 people. They live scattered in cities such as Almere, Purmerend, Hoorn, Harlingen, Leeuwarden, Spijkenisse...; this is a small community accounting for about 0.15% of the Dutch population.

Most of them have citizenship, live and work stably, integrate well with the local community, and have many activities towards their homeland. The studiousness of Vietnamese people is highly appreciated by the local community.

Since the beginning of 2000, the number of Vietnamese people going to the Netherlands to do PhD, master's and undergraduate studies has increased, focusing on the fields of scientific research, high technology, software, logistics, etc.

Community organizations have developed: Vietnamese Association in the Netherlands (established in October 2022), Vietnamese Women's Association in the Netherlands (January 2023); Vietnamese Women's Union in the Netherlands, Association of Vietnamese Science and Technology Intellectuals in the Netherlands (2007). Vietnamese language classes and Truong Sa Club are very active.

At the meeting, representatives of community organizations in the Netherlands such as President of the Vietnamese Association Ngo Thi Bich Ngoc, President of the Vietnamese Association in Den Haag city Nguyen Thi Cam Tu, President of the Vietnamese Intellectuals Association Lam Viet Tung, representative of the Vietnamese Women's Association Nguyen Thi Lan Huong, the Vietnamese Women's Union in the Netherlands, Vice President of the Vietnamese Women's Union in Europe Vu Ngoc Mai... reported on the activities of the associations and made recommendations and proposals to the Party, State and Government on a number of policies on economic development, science and technology and support for overseas Vietnamese.

Overseas Vietnamese representatives thanked the Party, State, Government, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy for always paying attention to the rights and interests of overseas Vietnamese. They were happy with the country's recent achievements and position, especially following closely and hoping to contribute to the new era of the nation.

At the same time, they also want to be facilitated in granting citizenship, business-related procedures, online payments; receive financial support and training in online Vietnamese teaching skills; and welcome art troupes from within the country to organize cultural promotion activities.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang expressed her emotion at the warm welcome of the people to the elaborate and unique "self-written and self-performed" art program, imbued with national cultural identity and imbued with the overseas Vietnamese's love for their homeland.

In particular, there were performances by elderly aunts and uncles and young children; praising the active activities of overseas Vietnamese in community building, preserving Vietnamese culture and language, participating in volunteer work to help compatriots in the country overcome storms, floods, natural disasters, supporting the movement for the sea and islands, for beloved Truong Sa...

The Deputy Minister discussed with the people the purpose, significance and results of the working delegation to the Netherlands; informed the people about the socio-economic development situation and foreign policy of the country, including the friendly and cooperative relations with the Netherlands.

Sharing with the people about the determination and efforts of the leaders and people nationwide in implementing the comprehensive renovation process for the nation to rise up in the new era, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang called on overseas Vietnamese to continue to make valuable contributions, while maintaining solidarity and unity, sharing a common vision of building a strong community, integrating and enhancing the position and prestige in the locality, preserving the Vietnamese language, culture and traditional roots.

Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang informed and affirmed that in all policies, the Party and Government of Vietnam always care about the legitimate rights and interests of the people, have increasingly favorable policies for the people to connect with the country such as the amended Law on Nationality, the amended Land Law, the Housing Law, the Law on Real Estate Business, the Law on Identification... and promote the role and potential of the people such as Resolution 57 on Science and Technology, Innovation, Law on Science and Technology... with many measures to give the team of intellectual experts more opportunities to contribute to the country.

Encouraging overseas Vietnamese to have more community activities to get closer together, foster solidarity, and join hands to preserve the Vietnamese language and culture, the Deputy Minister also requested the Embassy to continue to care for and accompany overseas Vietnamese activities, to be a warm common home for all overseas Vietnamese.
