TRT World stated that this is Mr. Hakan Fidan's first official visit to China since taking up the position of Foreign Minister in June last year.

During the three-day visit, Foreign Minister Fidan is expected to meet with Vice President Han Zheng and his counterpart Wang Yi, who visited Ankara in July last year, diplomatic sources said. This is also Wang Yi's first visit to Turkey, marking the presence of the highest-ranking Chinese official to visit Ankara in the past three years.

Turkey's top diplomat will also meet with Chen Wenqing, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and head of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission.

With bilateral trade volume last year exceeding $48 billion and China being Turkey's largest trading partner in Asia and third largest in the world, economic and trade relations will be a focus during the visit.

The discussions will cover a more balanced and sustainable trade structure, and explore cooperation opportunities for Chinese investments in the Eurasian transcontinental country, especially in new technology areas.

Mr. Fidan will also discuss harmonizing China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with the East-West Trans-Caspian Corridor Initiative, amid developments in Ukraine, the Gaza Strip and the Red Sea that affect global supply chain security and several transport projects.

In addition, the two sides are expected to address developments in Ukraine and the Asia-Pacific, especially the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip. According to TRT World, Mr. Fidan's participation in Beijing will highlight the importance of achieving a lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and steps towards a two-state solution.

Other prominent issues include cooperation in energy, civil aviation and tourism. Türkiye will stress its commitment to the One China policy and the importance of China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Following the meetings in Beijing, Türkiye's top diplomat is scheduled to visit Urumqi and Kashgar on June 4-5. The visit to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region will be Turkey's highest-level visit since President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, then prime minister, visited the region in April 2012.

Turkey has been working to boost ties with all regions of China, according to TRT World . In fact, Ankara has increased its diplomatic presence in the world’s second most populous country by adding a new consulate general in Chengdu, which opened last year, to its embassy in Beijing and consulates in Guangzhou, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
