Confidence in a bright future
In the area reserved for veterans and the elderly on Hung Vuong Street, Mr. Le Van Tu (92 years old, in Ung Hoa, Hanoi ) was moved: “In the fall of 1945, my father carried me to the Square to listen to Uncle Ho read the Declaration of Independence. I still remember the bustling, sacred atmosphere that made even the little heart of a child burst into joy. Over the past 80 years, the country has changed a lot, but that feeling of freedom and happiness is still intact in me today.”
The old man's words made the young people around him fall silent. Many people unconsciously held hands tightly, feeling the sacred continuity between generations.
Meanwhile, although his eyes were dim and his ears could no longer hear clearly, Mr. Nguyen Van Di (103 years old, 74 years in the Party, from Yen Lac, Phu Tho) still walked steadily. Mr. Di was a soldier in Dien Bien in the past, and was brought to Hanoi by his grandson, Mr. Nguyen Van Tan, on the night of September 1st to join in the atmosphere of the parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day.
Sitting watching the parade through the Lieu Giai - Kim Ma intersection, Mr. Di emotionally confided: "After 80 years of independence, our country is much happier now, with enough food and warm clothes, no longer the hunger and suffering of the past."

Among the bustling crowd, many veterans carried memories of the war and could not hide their emotions during the national festival. Having participated in the Central Highlands campaign, the resistance war against the US to save the country, Mr. Vu Dinh Phu (71 years old, in Hanoi) was moved when he saw the troops marching through Ba Dinh Square.
He shared: “I am proud to see the army growing stronger and stronger, and I am even more moved by the image of people from all over the country gathering in the capital on the great national festival. Attending the parade to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day, I am even more confident in the prosperous future of the country.”
Sitting in a wheelchair attending the ceremony, Mr. Nghiem Dinh Xay (87 years old, in Bac Ninh) beamed: “I am lucky to witness the parade today, maybe this is the last time in my life. Having trained the army and spent many years doing international missions in Laos, Cambodia and fighting to liberate South Vietnam, now seeing the country at peace , the army progressing strongly, I am extremely proud. Weapons and military strength are to preserve, protect and develop the country.”
Accompanying his father, Nghiem Dinh Vu (48 years old, Army Corps 12) shared: “Taking my father to attend the parade, marching on the 80th anniversary of the country’s National Day is my most memorable memory”. As a direct trainer of soldiers in the army, Mr. Vu was even more proud to witness the discipline, strength and modern equipment of the forces participating in the parade.
Millions of hearts converge on the capital
In the jubilant atmosphere of the great holiday of September 2, tens of thousands of people from all over the country and tourists flocked to the capital Hanoi to directly join the parade and march to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day. This was not only an opportunity to admire the army, police and powerful equipment, but also a moment for everyone to be more proud of the heroic tradition and development of the country today.
Watching the troops with their strong and heroic footsteps through many streets of Hanoi, Ms. Tran Thi Thuong (39 years old, from Nghe An) and her family of 10 traveled more than 300km to arrive in Hanoi early on September 2. She expressed: "Although it is far away, we still want to immerse ourselves in the holiday atmosphere, directly watch the parades and equipment passing by to clearly feel the increasingly powerful development of the country."
In the same group, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy emotionally mentioned the affection of the Party and State for the people: “We, the people of Nghe An, really appreciate the money the Government sent to celebrate Independence Day. My family will use this money to contribute to the flood relief fund when my hometown has just suffered the ravages of storm No. 5.”
In the clear blue sky, when the helicopter squadron raised the Party flag and the national flag over Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, thousands of eyes followed, hundreds of arms raised high to record the sacred moment. A 7-year-old girl shouted: "Mom, the national flag is flying in the sky!". The whole crowd burst into laughter, but many people quickly wiped away their tears of emotion.
In the sea of people with red flags with yellow stars in their hands, not only are there millions of Vietnamese hearts feeling very happy, proud, and sacred, but there are also many foreigners who are beating in the same rhythm. After watching the heroic troops parading on Ba Dinh Square and many streets of the capital, three young Lao people, Outhith, Thavone and Soonuc (3rd year students, Academy of Journalism and Propaganda) shouted: "Happy National Day of Vietnam September 2, celebrating the 80th anniversary of independence and freedom of Vietnam".
Hanoi on the 80th anniversary of National Day, September 2nd, is not only beautiful because of the golden sunlight of autumn and the bright red of the red flag with yellow star, but also because of the strength of the community - the strength that unites all hearts. In the midst of the crowded crowd, there are strangers holding hands tightly, there are smiles that have never been seen before, but are still exchanged with a strong belief in the peace, independence and freedom of the country. Moreover, that belief is also lit up by the heroic history and the aspiration for freedom of the nation so that the Fatherland will continue to step firmly, proudly and strongly into the new era.
