The "Buffalo Prince" contest attracted 13 villages to participate with 17 large, strong buffaloes carefully selected from households brought to the contest to compete.
The "Buffalo Prince" contest is held to honor "industry investment", long-standing ties with farmers. At the same time, creating unique community tourism products for visitors to Ngoc Chien.
Before the "Buffalo Prince" contest, the festival's organizing committee held a buffalo worship ceremony - bearing the cultural imprint of wet rice agriculture and the rich identity of the Thai ethnic group in Ngoc Chien.
17 "buffalo contestants" from 13 villages had to go through a rigorous selection process, each village was allowed to register from 1 to 5 buffaloes. Before competing, the buffaloes were all selected, carefully cared for, fed and trained to give the best performance in the competition.
The main scoring criteria are weight, body shape, beautiful horns, and the one with the tallest legs will win the title of "Buffalo Prince".
Currently, in Ngoc Chien commune, there are over 5,000 buffaloes, each weighing from 500 - 1,000 kg or more, each worth from tens of millions to hundreds of millions of dong. Mechanized agricultural production, buffaloes no longer have to serve plowing and harrowing, but still bring high economic value, helping people here get rich with the economic model of raising buffaloes in pens towards commodity production.
In the end, the title of “Buffalo Prince” belonged to the buffalo of Mr. Ca Van On’s family, Muong Chien II village. The “Buffalo Prince” of 2025 is 1m58 tall, 2m35 in chest, 2.6m long, and weighs 997 kg; second prize went to the buffalo from Giang Phong village; and two third prizes went to buffaloes from Long Cang and Dong Xuong villages.
