Competition for economic development and sustainable poverty reduction

In the journey of economic development and new rural construction, the movement of farmers competing in production, good business, solidarity to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty in Thanh Thuy district has become a strong driving force, motivating thousands of farmer members to escape poverty and get rich legitimately. In purely agricultural areas, there are now more and more creative, systematic and effective economic models, affirming the accompanying and supporting role of Farmers' Associations at all levels.

The poultry and aquaculture model of Ms. Nguyen Thi Duyen - a member of the Farmers' Association of Son Thuy commune, provides a stable income.

Having been a poor household for many years, now Ms. Nguyen Thi Duyen's family in Zone 3, Son Thuy Commune has a prosperous life with a stable income of hundreds of millions of VND each year from a large-scale poultry and aquaculture model. Ms. Duyen said: "My family used to be very poor, only knowing how to farm and raise a few chickens and ducks around the house. In 2011, thanks to the support of the Farmers' Association and preferential loans from the District Social Policy Bank, my husband and I decided to borrow capital and invest in building a barn to raise more than 2,000 chickens and ducks per batch. The stable income has motivated my family to expand the scale, take on more contracts for commercial fish ponds and sell fish fry." From small-scale farming, mainly based on traditional experience, Ms. Duyen learned more techniques, re-planned barns, and applied scientific and technological advances in care and disease prevention. Currently, each year her family raises about 3,000 ducks and 2,000 chickens, harvests more than 60 tons of commercial fish, generates an income of over 500 million VND, and creates jobs for 2-3 local workers. Not only has her family escaped poverty, but they have also contributed to spreading the spirit of overcoming difficulties and rising up in the locality.

Along with Ms. Duyen, in Thanh Thuy district, there are more and more examples of farmers who dare to think, dare to do, boldly invest in expanding production, and increase the economic value of their homeland. In 2024 alone, the whole district has nearly 5,800 households achieving the title of excellent production and business at all levels. Many typical models have affirmed outstanding efficiency such as the farm economic model of Mr. Le Manh Cuong in zone 6, Dong Trung commune with an income after deducting expenses of up to 6 billion VND/year; the comprehensive farm model of Mr. Nguyen Van Long in zone 1, Son Thuy commune; the model of raising commercial chickens and egg-laying chickens of Mr. Tran Quang Canh in Tan Phuong commune... In addition, professional farmer associations also contribute to creating effective specialized production areas such as raising cassava silkworms in Dao Xa commune, growing fruit trees, ornamental plants, and crops in Hoang Xa commune...

To create conditions for members to develop, Thanh Thuy District Farmers' Association pays special attention to vocational training and technology transfer. Not only organizing practical vocational classes, teaching right at the grassroots level, the Association also coordinates with the Provincial Center for Farmers' Support and Vocational Education to open a safe vegetable growing class for 35 members of Dong Trung commune. In addition, 4 primary vocational classes on cultivation, livestock and poultry farming, industrial sewing... were organized in Tu Vu, Dao Xa, Xuan Loc, and Tan Phuong communes, providing knowledge and practical skills for 140 members. After vocational training, over 80% of rural workers trained in agricultural occupations were able to create jobs for themselves.

Implementing the program in coordination with the Social Policy Bank, up to now, the whole district has more than 2,660 members receiving loans with a total outstanding debt of nearly 151 billion VND. 11/11 Association bases have been entrusted to lend, ensuring the right subjects and purposes. In addition, the Farmers Support Fund of nearly 5.7 billion VND has also been effectively promoted with many loan models for investment in fish farming, fruit tree planting, combined farm development... bringing high economic value, income 5-6 times higher than traditional rice cultivation.

Agricultural products of Thanh Thuy District Farmers' Association participate in display and promotion at fairs and trade promotion in the province.

Many localities such as Hoang Xa and Son Thuy communes have now become areas with an annual fish output of over 800 tons supplied to the market. The conversion of crop and livestock structures and the application of the VAC model are proving to be the right direction, linking production with the market, sustainable and effective.

Comrade Ha Thi Thanh Huong - Chairman of Thanh Thuy District Farmers' Association said: "We will continue to propagate and mobilize farmers to compete in production and business, promote the application of science and technology, organize production and consumption linkages according to the value chain. At the same time, promote the spirit of mutual assistance among farmers through sharing experiences, supporting capital, seedlings, materials... so that each member has the opportunity to rise up and become rich."

The movement of farmers competing in production and good business in Thanh Thuy district has not only developed in quantity but also gone into depth, demonstrated through the change in production thinking, vividly demonstrating the internal strength of farmers - those who play the main role in the construction of new rural areas.
