Immediately after the decision to dismiss Mr. Samir Saied, President Kais Saied appointed Finance Minister Sihem Boughdiri Nemsia as interim Minister of Economy and Planning.

In recent months, the Tunisian leader has ordered the dismissal of several ministers, including the foreign minister. Prime Minister Najla Bouden Romdhane was even dismissed on August 1.

The moves come as Tunisia is going through an unprecedented economic and financial crisis. According to official figures, inflation hit 9.3% in August and growth in the second quarter did not exceed 0.6%.

With a debt equivalent to about 80% of GDP, Tunisia is trying to negotiate with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to get a loan worth 2 billion USD to cover the budget deficit.

According to Investing , Tunisia's economy has been in recession due to a series of political crises since the Arab Spring protests. At the same time, rising food prices due to the conflict in Ukraine have also caused domestic markets to fluctuate and negatively affected people's spending.
