Reminding tradition, fueling responsibility
The exhibition “95 years of the Party Flag lighting the way”, opened at the National Exhibition Center on the occasion of the whole country joyfully celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day, attracted tens of thousands of officials, party members, veterans, students and people. That special attraction comes not only from the artifacts, pictures and modern display technology, but also from the profound message: 95 years of resilience, creativity and victory of the Communist Party of Vietnam are closely linked to the nation's aspiration for independence and freedom.
Within the framework of the Exhibition, the Discussion “Young Generation with the Aspiration for Independence and Freedom of Our Ancestors” became an emotional highlight. The sharing, stories, and combat memories of veterans, along with the voices of experts and young people, created a multi-dimensional picture: the heroic tradition of our ancestors continues to be passed on to today’s young generation to confidently enter the new era with a high sense of responsibility.

As Uncle Ho advised in his letter to students in the fall of 1945: “Whether Vietnam becomes glorious or not depends largely on your studies.” Eight decades have passed, but that message still holds true, becoming an immortal call for Vietnamese youth to reflect on their own responsibilities and aspirations in the cause of building a strong, prosperous, and happy country.
Looking back at history, since the Party was first established, many young people have shouldered great responsibilities. The first General Secretary Tran Phu was only 26 years old when he assumed the leadership position, but he devoted himself and sacrificed for the revolution. Comrades Le Hong Phong became General Secretary at the age of 33, Ha Huy Tap and Nguyen Van Cu also entered the highest leadership ranks of the Party at a very young age and heroically sacrificed in colonial prisons. The names of Ly Tu Trong, Vo Thi Sau and thousands of other patriotic young people have become symbols of resilience and indomitability, leaving an invaluable spiritual legacy for future generations.
These examples affirm a truth: heroes do not wait for age, and everyone has the right to cherish aspirations. Youth is the most beautiful time for dedication, creativity, and the spirit of “cutting through Truong Son to save the country” to contribute to the great victory of the nation.

Veterans attending the exhibition shared their touching memories of the heroic years. Mr. Nguyen Van Tan (Hanoi) recalled the years of arduous fighting, where every inch of land was defended with blood and sweat. He emphasized, “The value of independence and freedom is what the young generation needs to maintain to build an increasingly strong country”. He advised today’s young generation to study well, practice their bravery, and appreciate what their ancestors sacrificed, thereby continuing to build an increasingly rich and civilized country.
Veteran Nguyen Van Huynh (Thai Binh) was moved when recalling the fierce battle in Quang Tri in 1972, affirming that the sacrifice was invaluable to achieve the Paris Agreement and maintain independence. In his message to the younger generation, he emphasized that independence is only meaningful when it is preserved and promoted through labor, creativity, serving the people and building a rich, civilized country.

Or veteran Pham Hong Cam (Hung Yen) was moved when recounting the days of participating in the historic Ho Chi Minh campaign. As a young volunteer, he and his comrades marched to the South, carrying with them the aspiration to liberate the South and unify the country. But mixed with the joy of victory, he also deeply felt the pain of loss when many comrades remained on the battlefield. He hoped that the younger generation would never forget the merits of their ancestors and live up to the blood and bones of their predecessors.
According to him, today's youth need to nurture patriotism, be ready to devote themselves, and contribute their intelligence and strength to protect the achievements of peace, making the country increasingly developed and prosperous.
These memories not only recall a time of war, but also serve as a message to today’s generation: independence does not come naturally, but is exchanged for the blood and bones of millions of people. Therefore, preserving national independence is not only a responsibility but also a sacred duty of the youth in the period of integration and development.
The historical mission of youth and the hope to continue, the responsibility to shine
If our ancestors protected the Fatherland with guns and bullets, today, the young generation is protecting national independence with knowledge, science and technology, with the aspiration to master cyberspace and affirm national character in a "war" without gunfire. In the context of the 4th industrial revolution, challenges to ensuring network security are being posed.
Therefore, the young generation's mastery of technology, grasp of artificial intelligence, big data, and digital transformation is not only a development need, but also a new form of national defense.

Attending the exhibition, Nguyen Thuy Chi brought a fresh perspective when introducing the social enterprise Touching Green - where people with disabilities work, create and contribute. She shared that the unit's booth at the exhibition is a special occasion for the community to see the spirit of overcoming difficulties and the desire to integrate of the less fortunate. "I think independence and freedom are not only stories of war, but also the right to live equally, to contribute and affirm one's own value in society. People with disabilities, like everyone else, want to work, to create and contribute to the country.
With technology and digital economy, young people can completely create new models that are both humane and effective, to turn the spirit of independence into the inner strength of the community," Thuy Chi emphasized.
For me, the desire to contribute does not distinguish between circumstances, but is a common responsibility of today's young generation.
Nguyen Huu Quyen (Hai Duong) also expressed his concerns about environmental challenges and the responsibility of maintaining peace and sustainable development. He believes that independence today is not only linked to territorial sovereignty, but also lies in the ability to be economically self-reliant and protect resources for future generations.
“I feel lucky to be born in peacetime, to study and work in an independent country. But that also reminds us – the young generation – to be responsible for preserving the environment, protecting every inch of land, every river, so that the Fatherland is not only independent but also green, clean and sustainable. If our ancestors sacrificed their blood and bones to maintain independence, then today’s youth need to sacrifice their indulgence and selfishness to act for the environment, for sustainable development,” Quyen shared.
To me, patriotism is not only a feeling, but also a concrete action to build a strong and humane Vietnam.

From the aspiration for independence and freedom of their ancestors, today’s young generation is shouldering a new mission: to bring the country into an era of civilized development, standing shoulder to shoulder with the great powers. In that era, the youth is the core force – both the master and the creative pioneer.
That requires the young generation to be equipped with solid knowledge, nurture great aspirations, and at the same time cultivate morality, courage, and a sense of social responsibility. The cause of building and defending the Fatherland today not only continues the tradition of patriotism, but is also the process of creating a strong, prosperous, and happy Vietnam - exactly as beloved Uncle Ho wished.
Looking back at the heroic pages of history and listening to the sharing from generations, it can be affirmed that the aspiration for independence and freedom of our ancestors has been, is and will continue to be preserved and promoted by the young generation of Vietnam in all circumstances.
From the fierce battlefield to the challenging integration process, Vietnamese youth always demonstrate their mettle, dedication and aspiration to contribute.
In the new era, protecting and promoting the value of national independence does not stop at preserving territorial sovereignty, but also includes preserving cultural identity, affirming national position, mastering technology, protecting the environment, and creating the future. That is the sacred responsibility and pride of today's young generation of Vietnam.
For the country to move steadily forward on the path of development, it needs the continuous succession of generations - from veterans with rich memories to young people full of aspirations. And certainly, the flame of independence and freedom that our ancestors have worked hard to preserve will continue to shine in the souls of the youth, becoming a strong driving force to build a rich, powerful and happy Vietnam.
