Fireworks "witches"
The performance of the Orion Fireworks team from Canada with the work “Star Dust - Magic Starlight” was like a symphony of light, taking the audience on a journey to explore the universe, with clusters of fireworks bursting like sparkling meteors in the sky of Da Nang. Each layer of fireworks gently bloomed, simulating the stars, sometimes falling softly like a meteor shower, like colorful silk sheets across the Han River, sometimes rotating like moving constellations. The colors of the fireworks were delicately coordinated, smoothly changing to the melodies of songs like Power of Love and Never give up on your dreams, making the already visually pleasing performance even more emotionally moving.
If Canada led the audience to fly among the stars, Jiangxi Yanfeng, the current runner-up of DIFF 2024 from China, chose a storytelling style with a strong oriental feel through the performance of “Journey to the West”. The entire performance was led by a single song “The Road We Take” which helped the story to be seamless, consistent and full of emotion. The Chinese team showed their class with fireworks effects researched and produced by themselves, in which the highlight was the multi-layered color-changing fireworks, flexible and vivid like a mythical film. A comeback that affirmed the mettle of the Asian fireworks powerhouse, showing that sometimes fireworks are not just for viewing, but also for listening to wordless stories told by light.
Modern and creative fireworks language
More than 10,000 people in the stands and thousands of spectators outside the stands burst into emotion at the performances of the two teams. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (a tourist from Nghe An) shared: “My family arranged for a long time to travel to Da Nang to watch the fireworks. This is also the first time in my life that I have seen such a magnificent and beautiful performance. The whole stand kept exclaiming and then excitedly exclaiming. Each person has their own feelings and different assessments of each team, but I think both teams are great; in which the Chinese team brought a song from the movie Journey to the West to their performance, so it is more familiar.”
Coming to DIFF 2025, many tourists also had a memorable experience watching the home team perform right on foreign soil. “I really can’t believe I have the opportunity to watch my hometown fireworks team perform right in Vietnam, more than 12,000km away from home. This will definitely be an unforgettable memory of this trip,” said Emily, a tourist from Canada, excitedly.
Commenting on the third performance night, musician Nguyen Duc Trinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Musicians Association, member of the DIFF 2025 Jury, said that the jury was very surprised and excited when both teams followed the theme closely; at the same time, they created their own story and emotional flow for their performance. The appearance of the Canadian team, the team participating in DIFF for the first time, brought a new and strange breeze to the Da Nang fireworks stage. Meanwhile, the Chinese team, the runner-up last year, had a clear breakthrough in this year's competition. They brought a performance script imbued with traditional elements, inspired by Journey to the West, but expressed in the language of modern, creative fireworks with many unique features. Their style is very unique, very new, making the audience surprised and excited.
“On one side is the sophisticated, modern Western style of the Canadian team, on the other side is the rich and multi-layered Asian spirit of the Chinese team. The two competing teams have two opposing styles but blend together in the sky of Da Nang, creating a colorful fireworks “picture”, both diverse and full of the times. I think that each competition night at DIFF is a different experience. The sky of Da Nang is not only lit up by fireworks, but also by the emotional colors and unique stories that each team brings to the audience,” musician Nguyen Duc Trinh shared.
