Strengthening economic, trade and investment relations between Vietnam

On the afternoon of November 28 (local time), within the framework of a working visit to Finland, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Finland Rikka Purra.

Assessing Vietnam as Finland's most important partner in Southeast Asia, Deputy Prime Minister Rikka Purra said that the potential for economic cooperation growth between the two countries is huge, especially in areas such as forestry, energy, information and communication technology, education, environment, digital and green transformation, mining, etc.

Ms. Rikka Purra affirmed that Finland wishes to strengthen trade relations with Vietnam in the process of economic transformation, while contributing to Vietnam's goal of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions to "0" (Net Zero) by 2050.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Finland highly appreciated the Vietnamese community in Finland for their diligence and good integration, affirming that Finland will continue to create conditions for the Vietnamese community in Finland to live and work stably, maintain national cultural identity, thereby promoting the role of a bridge to promote friendship, understanding and connection between the two countries and two peoples.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha suggested that the Finnish Government pay attention to and encourage Finnish enterprises to invest in Vietnam in areas where the country has strengths such as environment, renewable energy, smart cities, industrial waste treatment, information, etc.; at the same time, he hoped that Finland would create conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to access the Finnish market.

The Deputy Prime Minister also asked Finland to continue to speak out so that the remaining countries in the European Union (EU) can soon ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) for the benefit of all parties and to contribute to strengthening economic, trade and investment relations between Vietnam and Finland as well as between Vietnam and EU member countries.

Appreciating the effective cooperation between Vietnam and Finland in the financial sector, the Deputy Prime Minister said that the two sides can complement each other. The two countries have coordinated and participated in many activities within multilateral frameworks such as WTO, ASEM, signed and successfully implemented many important agreements, creating a legal framework to promote bilateral cooperation such as the Framework Agreement on projects using public investment capital, the Agreement on avoidance of double taxation.

Regarding educational cooperation, the Deputy Prime Minister said that Finland has a leading educational environment, attracting more and more students to study, up to 2,500 students as at present, and suggested that Finland create conditions to grant scholarships to Vietnamese students.
