Tan Chau develops cooperatives and cooperative groups associated with production organization.

Current situation

In recent years, the cooperative economy in Tan Chau town has had positive changes, gradually affirming its role, position and importance in the economy. The cooperative economic movement is considered the key to success for sustainable agricultural development. The whole town currently has 18 agricultural cooperatives and 84 cooperative groups. Implementing the development of cooperatives and cooperative groups associated with organizing production according to the industry value chain, the town expects that in the coming years, it will establish 5 more cooperatives, improve the quality of 84 cooperative groups, and develop the cooperative economic movement in both breadth and depth.

However, according to the assessment of the Town People's Committee, the number of effectively operating agricultural cooperatives is not much, the production and consumption linkages are still fragmented, small-scale, and have not formed a closed value chain. "To overcome these limitations, the town has issued Plan 937/KH-UBND, setting specific goals, including continuing to maintain and improve the quality of 18 existing agricultural cooperatives and 84 cooperative groups. Establish 5 new cooperatives in the coming years" - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tan Chau Town Le Trong Oanh shared.

According to this plan, the rate of effectively operating cooperatives will reach 70% or more, of which 60% are classified as good, with at least 50% of cooperatives participating in consumption linkages with enterprises. "It can be said that the cooperative economy helps farmers escape their weak position in consuming agricultural products and is an important link to reorganize production, form large raw material areas, and meet the standards to participate in the export market. It is this factor that the town proposes a plan to increase support for cooperatives and cooperative groups in terms of land, capital, and human resources, which will create conditions for these models to develop in the direction of linking with enterprises to implement the value chain of the industry..." - Vice Chairman of Tan Chau Town People's Committee Dang Van Ne informed.

Farmers are identified as the subject of the innovation process, improving the quality of agricultural cooperatives.

Accordingly, cooperatives will be encouraged to produce according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards, have growing area codes and purchase products through contracts with enterprises. In particular, the town strives to have at least 1 cooperative applying high technology, associated with key products and the OCOP program of 2 stars or more.

Tan Phu A1 Agricultural Cooperative was established on December 2, 1998, with 115 members, initial charter capital of 115 million VND, with a total of 1,150 shares. The cooperative's production land area is 480 hectares. Over the past time, thanks to the cooperative business path, up to now, all members of the cooperative have a stable life, agricultural products have a place to sell, people are assured of production. For many years, Tan Phu A1 Agricultural Cooperative has always been the leading flag in the cooperative economic movement of the town. In the field of fruit trees, the town has Vinh Xuong and Phu Loc Fruit Tree Cooperative. This is a cooperative with a large raw material area (600 hectares) with a growing area code and a link to consume products.

In the coming time, to support cooperatives and cooperative groups to improve their production capacity, the People's Committee of Tan Chau Town has proposed 8 development solutions, such as: Focusing on reorganizing production, promoting the development of agricultural product consumption markets, promoting the implementation of investment attraction policies, continuing to improve the quality of human resources, promoting the application of science and technology, strengthening information and propaganda...

Sharing about solutions in implementing the development of cooperatives and cooperative groups associated with organizing production according to the value chain of the industry, Vice Chairman of Tan Chau Town People's Committee Dang Van Ne said that in the coming time, localities will strengthen the effective implementation of the Project "Restructuring the agricultural sector in the period of 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030 of the town", focusing on developing cooperatives and cooperative groups associated with restructuring key industries.

To do this, the town continues to promote professional training and management skills; support young personnel with college and university degrees to work in cooperatives; strengthen trade promotion, register trademarks, and build local agricultural product brands. Continue to innovate the methods and forms of operation of cooperatives and cooperative groups in a modern and effective direction, transforming farmers' thinking from agricultural production to agricultural economics; develop harmonious production relationships, companionship, mutually beneficial cooperation, and risk sharing between cooperatives, cooperative groups and enterprises.
