In recent days, when the two localities of Hai Duong and Hai Phong are preparing to merge, abolish the district level, and implement a two-level local government model, the border area between Lai Cach town (Cam Giang) and Tu Minh ward (Hai Duong city) is busier than usual.

This area used to be the western gateway of Hai Duong city, now many people and tourists stop their vehicles with the desire to take a souvenir photo next to the sign "Hai Duong city, see you again".
Over the years, the sign, which has been familiar and part of the memories of local people, has now become the center of attention at a historic moment.
Because the merger of two localities will entail changes in boundaries, names and administration, people want to take this time to preserve familiar moments before the local symbol may change or no longer exist.

For Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Tien, the sign is like a greeting, a milestone marking the beginning of trips or returns. The family currently lives in Nam Sach town, a few kilometers away. On June 22, Ms. Tien and her husband took their mother and children to take pictures with the sign as a way to preserve memories.
"Hai Duong is the hometown where my children were born and raised. When the two countries merge, I'm afraid they will forget our names, so I want the whole family to come here and take pictures to remember," Ms. Tien confided.
With the upcoming provincial merger, the young girl carries many emotions and hopes that her hometown will develop more and more.
Ms. Vu Van Anh lives near the sign area, and invited a group of friends to come here to preserve the transitional period of her hometown. When the group arrived to take pictures, many young people were already there.
Most people pay attention to stopping and parking in the right place, ensuring traffic order and safety before checking in at the welcome sign area.

Not only attracting locals, many tourists from neighboring areas also visit to take photos and share on social networks as a way to say goodbye to a familiar place.
The moment of checking in with the signboard becomes an emotional journey for everyone. It is a regret of parting, but mixed with excitement for the upcoming future.
"The sign will always be a part of the memories in the hearts of every Hai Duong resident. Whenever we go far away, just seeing this milestone makes us feel familiar and know we have returned home," said Ms. Minh Hien, a resident of Hai Duong City.
According to Resolution No. 1669/NQ-UBTVQH15 of the National Assembly Standing Committee, after abolishing the district level and merging Hai Duong province with Hai Phong city, the old Hai Duong city will become a part of Hai Phong city.
There are 9 newly established wards including: Hai Duong, Le Thanh Nghi, Viet Hoa, Thanh Dong, Nam Dong, Tan Hung, Thach Khoi, Ai Quoc and Tu Minh.
In which, the new Tu Minh ward will include the entire Cam Doai commune (Cam Giang), part of the area of the old Tu Minh ward and Lai Cach town.
Thus, this location will belong to Tu Minh ward of Hai Phong city, no longer the gateway to the city after the merger.
