Accordingly, the 2024 high school graduation exam in literature has 2 parts: Part I, reading comprehension (3 points), falls on an excerpt from the work "The River and Generations of Water" by author Nguyen Quang Thieu with 4 questions. Part II, writing (7 points), has 2 questions. Question 1 requires writing a paragraph of about 200 words presenting thoughts on the meaning of respecting individuality. Question 2 requires analyzing a poem in the work "Country", from which to comment on the combination of emotions and thoughts of author Nguyen Khoa Diem expressed in the poem.

According to data from the Ministry of Education and Training , this year's high school graduation exam has more than 1 million candidates registered, an increase of more than 45,000 compared to 2023. Of which, there are 46,978 independent candidates, accounting for 4.38%. Nationwide, 2,323 exam sites are arranged, an increase of 51 points compared to last year. Hanoi continues to be the locality with the largest number of candidates taking the high school graduation exam with 109,078 candidates, 34 times more than Bac Kan. The next 4 positions are Ho Chi Minh City (90,062), Thanh Hoa (38,775), Nghe An (37,044) and Dong Nai (34,088). The goal of this year's high school graduation exam remains unchanged compared to previous years. The exam results serve the purpose of high school graduation, serve as a basis for university and college admissions and evaluate the quality of management, teaching and learning at educational institutions.
