On June 24, the Applied Arts and Folk Arts Exhibition Space was officially launched to the public at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum. This is also a meaningful activity of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum on the occasion of the 59th anniversary of the Museum's founding (June 24, 1966 - June 24, 2025).
Dr. Nguyen Anh Minh, Director of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, said that applied arts and folk arts are an indispensable part of the historical development of Vietnamese fine arts. Applied arts and folk arts include types of folk paintings, statues, and household items that reflect the spiritual life, sophisticated professional skills, creativity, national identity, and aesthetic values of Vietnamese culture.

The exhibition space for applied art and folk art was previously displayed on the 2nd and 3rd floors of Building B. After many years of serving the public, the equipment has deteriorated, its aesthetic value has decreased and it no longer meets the needs of visitors. Therefore, in 2022, with the approval of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum has implemented the project to reorganize the exhibition of the Collection of Applied Art and Folk Art. After 2 years of implementation, the project has now been completed.
In addition to the display method that highlights the aesthetic value of each artifact, the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum chooses to use digital technology to enhance the multi-sensory experience for visitors. Due to the limited exhibition space, the Museum and its partners have researched, explored and used technology as a solution to optimize space and overcome limitations in exhibition area. At the same time, the Museum has built a lookup software to provide information and images of undisplayed artifacts, helping viewers to learn more about the collection, develop a plan to periodically rotate and change artifacts, contributing to diversifying and enriching this exhibition space.

The exhibition space for applied art and folk art is one of the important contents of the exhibition system of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, contributing to clearly reflecting the development history of Vietnamese fine arts from traditional to modern. In particular, the Applied Art Collection selects and introduces a number of typical artifacts such as: costumes, jewelry, musical instruments, weapons, labor tools, household items, children's toys... of some ethnic groups.
The exhibition space introduces a number of types of folk paintings and statues such as Dong Ho paintings (Bac Ninh), Hang Trong ( Hanoi ), Kim Hoang (old Ha Tay), Lang Sinh (Hue), along with worship paintings of the Kinh people and the Dao, Cao Lan, Tay, Nung ethnic groups; folk statues made of many materials such as terracotta, wood, metal..., reflecting the customs, beliefs, and lives of ethnic groups through each period.
The exhibition space for applied art and folk art introduced to the public this time has professional displays with glass cabinets, shelves, colors and lights that highlight the aesthetic elements of each artifact, along with the application of 3D mapping projection technology, interactive screens to look up artifact information, etc., creating a unique feature of this exhibition space. This will be a unique and interesting new place to visit, learn and experience for art lovers at home and abroad.
