On June 7, after a traffic accident, Mr. NTA, 28 years old in Hoang Dong commune, Lang Son city unfortunately died in a traffic accident. Holding back the grief, his family performed the noble act of agreeing to donate his organs to help patients in need of organ transplants to prolong their lives.
Doctor Nguyen Huu Hoang, Director of the Eye Bank, Central Eye Hospital said: Immediately after receiving the information, we immediately moved and were present to receive the organ. That noble gesture of the family contributed to bringing light to 2 other patients just a few days later.
According to the provincial Red Cross Society, this is the first case in the province where a family donated organs after death. Donating corneas in particular and tissue and organ donation in general helps patients have more chances to live, see the light and contribute to multiplying love and sharing.
Currently, the whole province has more than 600 people registered for organ and tissue donation cards (an increase of more than 400 people compared to 2022). |
Although tissue and organ donation is a noble act, it is not easy to mobilize people to participate due to customs and practices. Therefore, from 2019 to present, the Provincial Red Cross Association has issued documents, guiding all levels of associations to propagate the meaning of tissue and organ donation to raise public awareness. At the same time, in coordination with the National Coordination Center for Human Organ Transplantation and medical facilities, police forces, schools, etc., to organize seminars, training courses, integrate propaganda on registration for tissue and organ donation in programs, campaigns, and events on voluntary blood donation, screen short reports to mobilize and call on people to participate in registering for tissue and organ donation, etc. From 2020 to present, all levels of associations have coordinated to propagate more than 20 meetings with over 5,000 participants on the content and meaning of tissue and organ donation.
Ms. Nong Bich Thuan, President of the Provincial Red Cross Association, said: In addition to directing all levels of the association to strengthen propaganda, we also invited reporters from the National Coordination Center for Human Organ Transplantation to discuss and share experiences in propaganda and mobilization. At the same time, the association proactively coordinates with units and sectors to propagate among cadres and party members.
Mr. Hoang Xuan Truong, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, said: In recent times, the department has actively implemented many activities to raise awareness among health workers as well as people in the province about organ and tissue donation. At the same time, we organize training and propaganda sessions integrated into patient activities, especially encouraging medical staff, those who directly care for patients to be pioneers in registering to donate organs and tissues after death to spread humane values throughout the industry.
Thanks to the active participation of the Provincial Red Cross Association as well as the response and coordination of relevant sectors and units, the whole province currently has more than 600 people registered for organ and tissue donation cards (an increase of more than 400 people compared to 2022).
Hoang Nam Long, from the Provincial Medical College, said: I personally joined the school's voluntary blood donation club. When I joined the club, my friends and I were informed by the Provincial Red Cross Society about donating tissues and organs to save lives. Through that, I realized the meaning of that action, so in 2023, I registered to donate tissues and organs to help patients prolong their lives.
With the cooperation of all levels and sectors and the positive response of the people, we believe that organ and tissue donation activities in the province will continue to develop sustainably, becoming a widespread humanitarian movement, contributing to prolonging the lives of those left behind.
In the coming time, the association at all levels will strengthen coordination with departments, branches and organizations to promote propaganda in many vivid forms; multiply typical examples of registering and performing organ and tissue donation. At the same time, focus on praising, rewarding and showing gratitude to families and individuals who donate organs and tissues to spread the spirit of sharing and kindness in the community...
