These days, the small town of Si Ma Cai is busier than usual because there are 315 athletes from 19 delegations from agencies, units, and localities participating in the 2024 Lao Cai Provincial Stick Pushing, Tug of War, and Crossbow Shooting Championship. The weather in Si Ma Cai is cool, ideal for organizing physical activities and sports such as stick pushing, tug of war, and crossbow shooting.

Many crossbowmen scored excellently.

Taking advantage of the little time before entering the competition field, crossbow athlete Chao Thi Duyen Senh, Bat Xat High School No. 2, and her teammates went out to practice more. Athlete Chao Thi Duyen Senh said: This is the first time I have participated in a large-scale tournament, so I am a bit nervous and anxious. However, with careful preparation and encouragement from teachers and friends, I am much more confident and determined to compete successfully.

Having "fought" many times at crossbow shooting playgrounds in the province and achieved many successes, athlete Dang Van Hoa, Bao Yen District Sports Delegation, still appeared modest before entering the competition at the 2024 Lao Cai Provincial Stick Pushing, Tug of War, and Crossbow Shooting Championship. Dang Van Hoa shared: To prepare for the tournament, I spend about 2 hours a day practicing crossbow shooting. Before competing, I also have to check the crossbow and bow to ensure the best quality and strive for the best results.

The 2024 Lao Cai Province Stick Pushing, Tug of War, and Crossbow Shooting Championship will take place over 3 days (April 24 - April 26). On April 25, the Organizing Committee will arrange competitions in crossbow shooting and stick pushing, and on the 26th, tug of war events will take place. The stick pushing match that was considered the most exciting on the morning of April 25 was the "civil war" in the under 45 kg weight category between athlete Giang Khanh Lam, Si Ma Cai District Boarding Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minorities, and athlete Giang Van Quyet, Si Ma Cai High School No. 2.

In the first round, the two athletes struggled for nearly 3 minutes and Giang Van Quyet only lost to his opponent when he put his hands on the ground. In the second round, athlete Giang Khanh Lam was still the one who took the initiative, but it took nearly 2 minutes to overcome athlete Giang Van Quyet. In the end, athlete Giang Khanh Lam won 2-0 against athlete Giang Van Quyet. Giang Khanh Lam shared: I really like traditional sports, including pole pushing. To have the best health for the tournament, I actively ran, jumped up and down stairs, and diligently practiced pole pushing techniques. I hope to win a medal at this year's tournament.

Si Ma Cai is not a strong locality in sports compared to other districts, towns and cities in the province, but the spirit and competitive attitude of the athletes are not inferior to any opponent. Honored to be the host of the largest traditional sports tournament in the province, the athletes and sports coaches of Si Ma Cai have prepared very carefully and practiced seriously. Mr. Lai An Long, coach of the Si Ma Cai District Sports Delegation, said: After receiving the plan and regulations of the Organizing Committee, we selected the athletes with the best achievements to form a delegation to participate in the tournament. We also carried out training continuously more than 1 month before the tournament. This year, as the host unit, we will try our best to achieve the highest results.

Stick pushing, tug of war, and crossbow shooting are traditional sports that are regularly practiced and competed by many ethnic groups in the province. The 2024 Lao Cai Province Stick Pushing, Tug of War, and Crossbow Shooting Championship will be an excellent playground for athletes to express themselves, indulge their passion, and more importantly, contribute to preserving and promoting the fine traditional values of the nation.
