Quang Binh Department of Health improves the quality of blood pressure control in the community

(Dan Tri) - To proactively improve the quality of hypertension management, the Department of Health of Quang Binh province has launched the campaign "May Measurement Month - MMM" 2025.

The campaign "Blood pressure measurement in May 2025" in Quang Binh was implemented with close coordination between the provincial Department of Health and the Vietnam Hypertension Association (VSH). The program launching ceremony took place on May 16 at TTH Quang Binh General Hospital, with the participation and direction of Prof. Dr. Huynh Van Minh - President of the Vietnam Cardiology Association (VNHA), President of the Vietnam Hypertension Association.

The presence of Prof. Dr. Huynh Van Minh shows the deep concern from leading experts, and affirms the commitment of the Quang Binh Department of Health in raising awareness and controlling blood pressure in the community.

Controlling high blood pressure: Action needed today

According to 2019 statistics by WHO, there are 14.3 million Vietnamese people aged 30-79 with high blood pressure. While only 47% are diagnosed, 30% are treated and 13% have their blood pressure controlled.

In Quang Binh, this situation is also alarming. According to the study “The status of hypertension and some related factors in the elderly in Quang Binh” conducted on 815 people, the rate of hypertension is up to 52%. But only 65.3% of them know they have the disease and only 42.4% are being treated.

The study also found significant differences by age, physical condition and medical history. People who were overweight, had abdominal obesity and a history of cardiovascular disease were at significantly higher risk than those without these risk factors. This is no longer a single medical story, but a necessary wake-up call for the entire local health care system: how to ensure that no one is left behind - with a disease that can be prevented and controlled early.

MMM 2025 : From a month of action to a roadmap for sustainable control

To proactively improve the quality of hypertension management, the Quang Binh Provincial Department of Health, along with 7 other Departments of Health across the country, launched the "May Measurement Month" (MMM) 2025 campaign. MMM, short for May Measurement Month, is a global blood pressure screening program initiated by the International Society of Hypertension.

In Vietnam, the program is actively participated in by VSH and VNHA. Not only stopping at the communication message "Blood pressure above 130/80 mmHg, don't be lazy to ask the doctor", this campaign is deployed in a series of systematic activities, aiming to improve the effectiveness of detecting and managing high blood pressure in the community.

The campaign was launched on May 16 at TTH Hospital - Quang Binh province with an intensive training course for 114 medical staff from medical facilities, district health centers and commune health stations across the province. The training content not only includes instructions on blood pressure measurement techniques, but also includes skills in counseling, health education and effective communication with patients.

In parallel, MMM 2025 is deployed at 20 medical units across the province such as Quang Binh Provincial General Hospital, Quang Ninh District General Hospital, Dong Hoi City Medical Center, Le Thuy District Medical Center, Quang Ninh Medical Center, Bo Trach District Medical Center, Northern Quang Binh Regional General Hospital, Quang Binh General Hospital..., with the goal of screening more than 4,000 people.

Through this, Quang Binh hopes to update the picture of the local high blood pressure situation in a more comprehensive and accurate manner. The collected figures will be an important foundation for building appropriate and community-oriented health policies.

Hypertension patient club activities are also organized at the grassroots level to support patients in maintaining treatment, understanding diet, exercise, medication and self-monitoring blood pressure at home. In addition, Quang Binh also brought the intensive training program Hypertour "Update on clinical practice guidelines for hypertension management 5D from VSH/VNHA 2025" to the province, to update the latest treatment knowledge for frontline medical staff.

With the cooperation of the entire health system, the MMM 2025 campaign in Quang Binh aims at a long-term goal: building a habit of proactive health check-ups in the community. The goal after the campaign is practical changes such as increasing the rate of early detection of hypertension, the rate of controlling hypertension in the community, reducing the number of hospitalizations due to complications and especially forming a proactive mindset of disease prevention instead of treatment.
