(NLDO) - The education and training sector needs coordination from schools, families and society to give suggestions to schools in organizing boarding meals.

Recently, on student and parent forums in Ho Chi Minh City, many students took pictures of their school meals and said that the meals were not filling enough, did not ensure food safety, and were not worth the price.

In response to the above comments, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that regarding the organization of boarding meals at schools in the city, the department has issued a document directing the Department of Education and Training of districts, principals to properly manage collective kitchens, canteens, and food services in schools; strictly ensure food safety conditions according to the provisions of Joint Circular No. 13/2016 and Joint Circular No. 08/2008 of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and Training.

Requireeducational institutions to seriously implement: Strengthen inspection, management, and supervision of school meals, food safety, proper nutrition, and environmental sanitation in educational institutions; divide the time for each student meal reasonably; the dining area must be airy and clean; monitor the processing, serving, and cost of each student meal every day; regularly monitor industrial catering facilities; strictly conduct self-inspection of food safety for kitchens and canteens in schools.

Particularly for educational institutions that organize collective kitchens at schools: The leadership team, staff in charge of medical work, those who directly manage and supervise meals, the quality of collective kitchens, canteens, and food services in schools must understand and grasp current regulations on conditions for investing in food business, administrative sanctions for food safety violations, measures to prevent food poisoning and handle food poisoning; "instructions on implementing the 3-step food inspection regime and keeping food samples for food service establishments"; instructions on operating the self-inspection system at educational institutions.

Regularly inspect, supervise, periodically, and suddenly the collective kitchen, canteen, and food service in the school. The head is responsible for signing contracts with food suppliers, contracts with food supply companies in accordance with food safety standards, legal documents, clean food sources with clear origins and ensuring food safety and hygiene quality, legal documents of the person directly cooking and doing business. Coordinate with the Parents' Representative Board to supervise the processing, serving, and nutritionally balanced menus.

According to the City Department of Education and Training, at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, the department issued an official dispatch directing the Department of Education and Training to send personnel with the Department of Food Safety to participate in all food safety inspection teams in schools for the 2024-2025 school year; develop a plan to inspect the organization of school meals, food safety, clean water - environmental sanitation in all educational institutions; Encourage the Parents' Representative Board to jointly supervise boarding meals.

The education sector needs cooperation from schools, families and society. The parent representatives in the class and school should play their role in coordinating with the school to take care of students' health; provide advice and suggestions to the school in organizing boarding meals; and supervise the school in organizing boarding meals and the quality of boarding meals throughout the school year.

"The Department of Education and Training is always ready to receive feedback from parents and students about the quality of meals at schools in the city, considering this a useful channel for the Department of Education and Training to further improve inspection and supervision work, further improve the quality of organizing meals for students, and take care of students' health" - the department representative affirmed.
