The signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation between the Pacific International Hotel Management School and Swiss Belhotel International Group from New Zealand with partners in the field of vocational and university education in Vietnam recently took place in Hanoi.

This signing activity is part of a series of events towards the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-New Zealand diplomatic relations.

The ceremony witnessed the signing of two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between the Pacific International Hotel Management School (PIHMS) and the University of Economics, Vietnam National University, Hanoi and the MoUs between PIHMS, the University of Economics, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Hai Phong College of Tourism and Swiss Belhotel International Group. The MoUs aim to train high-quality human resources for the hospitality industry in Vietnam.

“Today’s signing ceremony is not the beginning but the continuation of the traditional relationship between Vietnam and New Zealand, especially in the field of education. I am delighted that students and schools in Vietnam are interested in New Zealand education and vice versa, our schools want to have strong cooperation. Next year, there will be many events as well as signings in the field of education, contributing to further promoting cooperation between the two countries” – Ms. Caroline Beresford, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of New Zealand to Vietnam, shared.

Also at the signing ceremony, many cooperation opportunities were opened. New Zealand schools such as PIHMS will support career guidance toolkits, send teachers to high schools to help students have better awareness in choosing a career, career guidance, continuing to study at university or turning to vocational training. Vocational schools can invite quality lecturers from PIHMS to teach courses related to hotels and restaurants.

Associate Professor Dr. Le Trung Thanh, Rector of the University of Economics, Vietnam National University, Hanoi and Mr. James Cunningham, Executive Director of the Pacific International Hotel Management School signed a memorandum of cooperation on educational exchange.

Associate Professor Dr. Le Trung Thanh, Principal of the University of Economics, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, said that this meeting, signing and exchange also suggested ways to coordinate short-term but flexible and effective student and lecturer exchanges in creating global working citizens.

Swiss-Belhotel International, a New Zealand-based hotel group with hundreds of hotels across the Asia-Pacific, is a strategic partner in the collaboration. Students will have the opportunity to receive advanced professional training and internship opportunities at Swiss-Belhotel International facilities, while gaining hands-on experience and industry insights, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and the practical demands of the hospitality industry.

“Swiss-Belhotel International is deeply committed to the development of the tourism industry in Vietnam, and we value our cooperation with educational institutions. This cooperation not only aims to promote the hotel industry but also to create more career opportunities for Vietnamese students,” said Mr. Edward Faul, Deputy General Director of Swiss Belhotel International.

To have a meeting and sign an educational cooperation agreement between the four parties, we must mention the role of Ms. Nga Blanchard, CEO of NZiFOCUS. For many years in the position of New Zealand education expert, Ms. Nga Blanchard has also been representing PIHMS, a school with a high-quality tradition in training high-quality hotel human resources while effectively implementing a paid internship model for students, especially Vietnamese students, as well as ensuring jobs for them after graduation.
