Sergio Ramos has turned 39. After leaving Real Madrid, the centre-back had spells at PSG and Sevilla before moving to Monterrey earlier this year. At the Mexican club, Ramos still plays an extremely important role in the defence.

In the FIFA Club World Cup match this morning, Ramos contributed a goal to help Monterrey hold strong opponent Inter Milan to a 1-1 draw. Notably, this was the debut match of coach Chivu at Inter. He has just taken over from Simone Inzaghi, who moved to lead Al Hilal.
Entering this match, Inter took the field with their familiar 3-5-2 formation with the striker duo Lautaro Martinez and Sebastiano Esposito. Meanwhile, Marcus Thuram sat on the bench.
With superior strength, Inter pushed forward to dominate the game right after the opening whistle. However, the Milan club's strikers such as Esposito, Lautaro Martinez and Darmian all failed to finish.
In that situation, Monterrey unexpectedly opened the scoring in the 25th minute. From a corner kick, Ramos jumped high and headed the ball into the Inter net. This was a goal in the familiar style of this central defender.
Immediately after this goal, Inter had a chance to level the score but Esposito's shot was too weak when he came in from close range. The ball went straight to the Monterrey goalkeeper.

However, in the 42nd minute, the Nerazzurri finally equalized. After a free kick, Augusto broke the offside trap, before passing to Lautaro Martinez to easily tap the ball into the empty net.
In the second half, Inter continued to pressure their opponents. However, they also received a warning. In the 64th minute, Canales had a long-range shot that hit the post of goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
In dire need of a goal, Inter sent Thuram onto the pitch. In the 77th minute, Lautaro Martinez missed an unbelievable opportunity when he shot wide from a comfortable position in the penalty area.
In the 90th minute, Inter experienced a heart-stopping moment when defender Acerbi passed the ball dangerously back. Fortunately, goalkeeper Sommer rushed out to clear the ball right in front of the Monterrey player's shoes. The match ended with a score of 1-1.
In the remaining match in this group, River Plate easily won 3-1 against the Japanese representative Urawa Reds. Thus, the Argentine team leads the group after the first round with 3 points. The two teams Inter and Monterrey are next with 1 point, while Urawa Reds is at the bottom of the table with no points.
