Accordingly, Chairman of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Tran Quoc Tuan said on June 17: "We have analyzed the football development strategies of many countries and monitored the results of countries that have had many naturalized players in the past."
“If we recklessly naturalize players en masse without careful consideration, the national team may temporarily become stronger, but our domestic football ecosystem will weaken,” Mr. Tuan added.

After the statement of the head of VFF, fans in Southeast Asia expressed their support. A fan named Rusty Nail wrote on the ASEAN Football website: “I completely agree with VFF’s opinion. Just look at the lesson from Singapore a decade ago.”
“At that time, Singapore naturalized and won several consecutive AFF Cups, but this policy eventually led to a decline in the source of domestic players. The reason was that domestic players lost the motivation to compete and develop. As a result, their football became weaker,” Rusty Nail added.
Rusty Nail’s comment was supported by a fan nicknamed Yoesoef Ml. He said: “I agree with the viewpoint of Vietnamese football. At least, they do not force naturalization on South American players of unclear origin, like neighboring countries are doing. I wish Vietnamese football success.”

A fan nicknamed M Rifai said: “That is a good move for Vietnamese football. Teams are naturalizing players en masse just for temporary achievements. Many fans are waiting for the Vietnamese team to win against the Malaysian team in the second leg of the Asian Cup qualifiers. That will be a very interesting victory.”
Meanwhile, a Thai fan named Thomas Bang frankly admitted: “This is a great strategy of Vietnamese football. Massive naturalization teams like Malaysia and Indonesia are not sure to be successful in the long term.”
“The most important and proudest thing is that I see Vietnamese football always puts national pride first. I hope Thai football does the same,” said a fan named Thomas Bang.
The Vietnamese team will still follow the current path, which is to build a force based on a core of domestically trained players, with the addition of a few Vietnamese players born and raised abroad.
