Bac Lieu A three-year-old boy followed his family to a shrimp pond and was suddenly caught in a propeller, resulting in soft tissue injury and a broken femur.

On June 18, a representative of Thanh Vu General Hospital said the child was admitted three days ago with multiple injuries, pain and crying a lot. Family members said that while working outside the shrimp pond, the child suddenly followed him out and was then caught in the shrimp farming fan. The family discovered it at the same time, so they turned off the fan and took the child to the hospital.

Through paraclinical examination, the doctor recorded that the child had soft tissue injuries in the head and face area, a closed fracture of the middle third of the left femur, and indicated surgery combined with femoral adjustment.

After surgery, the baby's health has gradually recovered, the surgical wound is dry, he can move his legs, and is expected to be discharged in the next few days.

Dr. Ngo Quang Dien, Department of Orthopedic Trauma Surgery, said that accidents caused by shrimp farming fans are rare and often leave serious sequelae, even death. The doctor advised parents not to let their children play in areas where shrimp farming fans are operating to avoid unfortunate accidents.

"Especially for young children with femur fractures, if not treated promptly, it can easily cause life-threatening traumatic shock, as well as affect the child's psychology later on," said Mr. Dien.
