Quang Ngai: Storms damaged nearly 26,500 Ngoc Linh ginseng plants

(QNgTV) - On the morning of August 2, Mr. Pham Xuan Quang, Chairman of the People's Committee of Mang Ri commune, Quang Ngai province, said that due to the impact of the recent storm, more than 26,000 Ngoc Linh ginseng roots of 189 households fell and were damaged, with an estimated total loss of nearly 12 billion VND.

According to the report of Mang Ri Commune People's Committee, of the total number of damaged ginseng trees, there were more than 20,000 trees from 1 to 4 years old and nearly 6,000 trees from 5 years old or older.

In addition to the damage to ginseng, the storm also caused the roofs of 53 houses in Mang Ri commune to be blown off. Many irrigation works, roads, coffee and rice fields were damaged, with an estimated loss of about 5.4 billion VND.

According to Mr. Quang, most of the affected households are Xo Dang ethnic people, whose economic life is still difficult. Ngoc Linh ginseng is the biggest asset of the people, the livelihood that helps them hope to escape poverty and become rich. The heavy damage to ginseng has caused many households to fall into dire straits.
