The Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) offensive in the northern part of Ukraine’s Sumy Oblast continues; despite reports that “RFAF is advancing slowly”. The RFAF remains committed to its “fight firmly, advance firmly” strategy. And the increasing control of villages in Sumy, as well as the retreat of Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) there with losses, is proof that the RFAF continues to attack on this front.
Russia's Rybar channel reported that by noon on June 7, Russian troops had advanced south of the N-07 highway in the Yunakivka area and, after the Ukrainian troops stationed in Yunakivka fell into a pincer encirclement, had to withdraw from the village of Sadki, located southeast of Yunakivka.
The Ukrainian army, after being pushed out of the Kursk region of Russia, retreated to organize a defensive line in the villages of Yunakivka and Sadky, where there were dense forests, favorable for building defensive positions. But instead of attacking with infantry, the RFAF continuously bombed the Ukrainian troops there with FAB UMPK bombs.
The number of Russian FAB UMPK bomb attacks on the village of Sadky has increased many times in recent days. And in the context of the Russian army's siege of Yunakivka, the AFU's stay in Sadky becomes meaningless and deadly.
Currently, the Ukrainian troops have retreated from the village of Sadky to the southwest - to a large forest called the Nature Reserve. The area of the reserve is about several dozen square kilometers. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian troops in Yunakivka have fallen into the RFAF's pincer encirclement.
The RFAF Northern Group has now advanced to Yunakivka from the Loknya bridgehead in the northwest. At the same time, the Russians have also expanded their attack on Yunakivka, not only from the northwest, but also from the east, when they captured the village of Yablonovka.
The situation of the Ukrainian army in Yunakivka is currently very difficult, as they are surrounded by the Russian army, while both sections of the N-07 highway are cut off both to the east and west of the village. As for the Ukrainian army in the village of Sadky, the reserve force for Yunakivka, unable to withstand the Russian bombing, had to retreat to the forest to the south.
The Military Summary channel reported that as of the morning of June 7, the RFAF Northern Group continued to advance from Yablonivka southwards - towards the Khrapovshchina settlement. And this means that the "vertical" (on the map) section of the N-07 road north of Khrapovshchina (marked in blue) could soon be completely under the control of Russian troops.
Today, north of Sumy, Yunakivka is a stronghold that the AFU “cannot afford to lose”; during the AFU’s cross-border offensive against Kursk, Yunakivka was one of its main transport and logistics centers. Now, Yunakivka is a fortified defensive area, tasked with stopping a Russian attack on Sumy.
According to former spokesman for the AFU General Staff, Colonel Vladislav Seleznev, the RFAF Northern Group has been actively attacking Sumy over the past week, posing a direct threat to the city of Sumy. According to estimates, the area of Sumy Oblast currently controlled by the RFAF is about 220 square kilometers.
Mr Seleznev called on residents to leave Sumy if possible, and the AFU was ready to defend the city. But Mr Seleznev said the RFAF's main goal was to create a security buffer zone, which may not include Sumy.
Last month, the Sumy Oblast government announced the evacuation of more than two hundred villages in the region near the Russian border. The RFAF now has full control of twelve villages in the Sumy Oblast. It should be noted that the Sumy Oblast border region is very sparsely populated.
To reduce the pressure of the RFAF, which is moving towards the city of Sumy, the AFU General Staff is also launching an attack on the Russian Kursk region in the border village of Tyotkino, in the Glushkovsky district. What is special is that this village is adjacent to the village of Ryzhevka in the Sumy region, which is the bridgehead of the Ukrainian army.
The AFU is also trying to break through to Tyotkino from the southeast, from the Budki-Iskriskovshchina line in Sumy Oblast. As of the evening of June 7, Tyotkino remains under the control of the RFAF, the RVvoenkory channel reported. At the same time, the presence of Ukrainian troops on the outskirts of the village and to the southeast of the village has been confirmed, while Russian firepower is fiercely suppressing them.
Therefore, it can be affirmed that the AFU is determined to take Tyotkino at all costs. In the fields along the road, along the Tyotkino-Golyshevskoye road, the corpses of Ukrainian soldiers after attacks by FABs, FPV UAVs and other Russian firepower weapons are scattered.
Now from the village of Tyotkino to the Sumy-Putivl-Glukhov highway is no more than 8 km; the AFU General Staff, by launching an offensive on Tyotkino, aims to stop the Russian offensive on this front area. (photo source Military Review, Ukrinform, Deep State).
