Qualcomm sets up AI research and development center in Vietnam

Qualcomm's third largest artificial intelligence research and development center in the world (after two centers in India and Ireland) was announced to be located in Vietnam.

Qualcomm's official launch of the new Artificial Intelligence Research and Development (AI R&D) Center in Vietnam is expected to make Vietnam a leading AI research and innovation center in the region and the world .

With a team of scientists , researchers and AI experts working in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the AI R&D Center will be part of Qualcomm's global AI research group, playing a key role in developing generative AI and agentic AI solutions for applications in many fields such as smartphones, personal computers, extended reality (XR), automobiles and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

The center will focus on technological innovation from basic research to platform building, promoting regional human resource development and academic collaborations, and directly contributing to Qualcomm's global product roadmap as well as the development of the AI technology industry in Vietnam.

At the launching ceremony of the Center, Mr. Le Xuan Dinh, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology , said that this is an important event marking a new step forward in technological cooperation between Vietnam and the United States in a new field of mutual interest to both countries.

Qualcomm's choice of Vietnam as the destination for its AI Research and Development Center demonstrates its belief in the potential and capacity of Vietnam's IT workforce. It is also a vivid demonstration of the increasingly deepening comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the United States.

“We believe that the Center, once operational, will enhance AI research capacity in Vietnam and become a Center that contributes to training and developing a team of international engineers, experts, and contributing to promoting sustainable socio-economic development of Vietnam,” Mr. Le Xuan Dinh emphasized.

Also at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Finance Le Tan Can asked Qualcomm Group to continue promoting breakthrough research on AI, expanding applications in many fields and strengthening Qualcomm's long-term cooperative relationship with Vietnam.

Mr. Le Tan Can suggested that Qualcomm continue to closely coordinate with the National Innovation Center, Vietnam's leading technologies, expand cooperation with Vietnam's leading universities... to support Vietnam in developing human resources for the artificial intelligence industry.
