The Dien Khanh Vuong shrine is located at 228 Nguyen Sinh Cung, Vy Da Ward, Hue City, and his tomb is at Group 10, Area 5, Old An Tay Ward (now An Cuu Ward), Hue City. Currently, both locations of this national relic are being encroached upon and encroached upon. Representatives of the descendants of Dien Khanh Vuong have repeatedly sent petitions to authorities at all levels and the cultural sector in Hue City, requesting solutions to handle the encroachment and encroachment of the relic, but so far they have not been effectively handled.
RESTAURANT RELIC FRONTAGE
Specifically, in the area of the tomb of King Dien Khanh, people have cut down pine trees in the grounds and encroached on the area to build tombs. At the shrine, some households have encroached on the main gate and the front yard to sell fruit and beef noodles.
The facade at the main gate of the temple was occupied as a noodle shop and a fruit shop.

According to Mr. Hanh Thong, the clan representative, the above mentioned encroaching households include descendants of the clan and outsiders. The clan has also met many times, requesting to stop encroaching and damaging the relic, but to no avail. Therefore, the clan has sent a petition to the authorities for handling according to the law.
It is known that previously, on July 7, 2023, the People's Committee of Vy Da Ward (old) after receiving Mr. Hanh Thong's petition, issued a written response that the Department of Culture and Information of Hue City and the People's Committee of Vy Da Ward had established an inspection team, and the results determined that there were 2 cases of selling noodles and fruits at the gate of the palace in the morning. The case of selling noodles was by Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Hiep Lu's wife (currently the caretaker of the palace), the case of selling fruits was by Mr. Hiep Lu's nephew and Mr. Thong's nephew. The Ward People's Committee requested Mr. Thong to hold a family meeting to agree on the 2 households trading, make a record not to allow trading or handle them to trade at another location; the ward will invite the relevant parties to continue working.
Mr. Hanh Thong said that after that, the clan held a meeting, and on August 8, 2023, representatives of the descendants agreed to sign to continue petitioning the government to handle the matter because the clan could not handle it internally. However, since then (after the merger of the new Vy Da Ward), the matter has not been handled by the Vy Da Ward People's Committee.
Regarding the encroachment of the tomb of King Dien Khanh in An Cuu Ward, in August, the People's Committee of An Cuu Ward invited relevant functional units to inspect. However, the encroachment is related to land records, so the locality is asking the functional agencies to verify it to have a basis for handling.
NEED TO MANAGE AND PROMOTE THE VALUE OF RELICS
The Dien Khanh Vuong temple relic was built in the 10th year of Tu Duc (1857). The temple has been repaired many times but still retains the traditional architecture of the house, and many valuable artifacts are preserved inside.

The tomb was built after King Dien Khanh died in 1854. According to the relic records, when he died, the Nguyen Dynasty granted money to build the tomb, and later King Tu Duc wrote a poem to pay his respects.
Dien Khanh Vuong's real name was Nguyen Phuc Tan (also known as Nguyen Phuc Than), the 7th prince of King Gia Long, his mother was Chieu Nghi Nguyen Thi Dien. He was born on March 16, Ky Mui year (March 21, 1799) in Gia Dinh citadel, died on June 23, Tu Duc's 7th year (July 17, 1854), at the age of 56; King Tu Duc posthumously granted him the title of Dien Khanh Vuong, and gave him the posthumous name Cung Chinh. He was known as an upright, virtuous, modest, polite, and gentle person, and was praised by the king and rewarded many times.
In the field of culture and art, Dien Khanh Vuong was a talented person and made great contributions. Under the reign of King Tu Duc, he "was the pioneer, had great creative achievements, showed the way, and led the way" and together with Dao Tan, Ngo Quy Dong, Vu Dinh Phuong... participated in compiling the long play Van Buu Trinh Tuong . This is the most massive play, with 108 episodes, the work is heavily based on the ideology of respecting the king, taking loyalty, filial piety, and righteousness as moral principles; there are some familiar episodes such as: Bach Dau Cong rolling fire, Kim Anh Tu meets Moc Nu La... mainly performed in the Hue Royal Court.
Dien Khanh Vuong was also one of the kings who laid the foundation for the art of tuong, establishing Thanh Binh Palace (later continued to build Thanh Binh Tu Duong located at alley 281 Chi Lang, Gia Hoi Ward, Hue City) as a place to worship the founder of the art of hat boi (tuong), a unique traditional theatrical form of Vietnam.
To show gratitude to our ancestors, on January 3, 2020, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued Decision No. 19/QD-BVHTTDL to rank the tomb and the Dien Khanh Vuong shrine as a national historical relic. With the special values of the relic and the outstanding contributions of Dien Khanh Vuong to culture and art, the national relic of the tomb and the Dien Khanh Vuong shrine needs to be managed by the competent authorities of Hue City to prevent encroachment, encroachment and promote the value of the relic effectively.
