Supplement of Nhan Dan newspaper printed image of Uncle Ho reading the Declaration of Independence

The image of Uncle Ho reading the Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945 at Ba Dinh Square was printed in a supplement of Nhan Dan newspaper launched on the afternoon of August 29.

Supplement 2-9 of Nhan Dan newspaper depicts Uncle Ho wearing a shirt and vest reading the Declaration of Independence.

Artist Kim Duan - the art designer for the publication - decided to draw Uncle Ho wearing a shirt inside, a vest and simple khaki pants outside.

What did Uncle Ho wear when reading the Declaration of Independence?

At the launch of this supplement along with special publications of Nhan Dan newspaper on September 2, Kim Duan said that he and the editorial team of Nhan Dan newspaper spent time researching President Ho Chi Minh's outfit on the Independence Day in 1945 before making their decision.

In fact, many photos of Uncle Ho taken on September 2, 1945, published sporadically in many recent events and exhibitions of various agencies, show that Uncle Ho was wearing a khaki vest and a white shirt inside, exactly as the image drawn by artist Kim Duan for the supplement.

The photo is on display at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum relic site with the caption 'President Ho Chi Minh stepping down from the podium after reading the Declaration of Independence, Ba Dinh Square, September 2, 1945'

Most recently, in the exhibition celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2 at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, a photo of Uncle Ho just stepping down from the Independence stage was also displayed, clearly showing his outfit. It was a khaki vest and white shirt .

Another photo shows Uncle Ho in a car preparing to go to the Independence Palace on the afternoon of September 2, 1945, wearing a vest, not a military uniform.

Experience the Independence Day 80 years ago

The special supplement 2-9 consists of two parts. The first part recreates the image of President Ho Chi Minh reading the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square, and also prints the entire Declaration of Independence.

Part two introduces 80 outstanding events over the past 80 years in the fields of politics , economics, society, foreign affairs, culture...

The supplement also includes digital formats such as an augmented reality experience of President Ho Chi Minh reading the Declaration of Independence, an augmented reality experience of the Independence Monument, and the Declaration of Independence heard on Spotify and TikTok platforms. This supplement is available to readers from August 29 to September 3.

On this occasion, Nhan Dan newspaper also launched a special issue on September 2, launching two special pages at the addresses quockhanh.nhandan.vn and congan.nhandan.vn .

The multi-sensory exhibition, which takes viewers back to the atmosphere of Independence Day 80 years ago at Ba Dinh Square, was also announced to open at the headquarters of Nhan Dan newspaper, 71 Hang Trong, Hanoi , lasting from August 29 to September 3.
