Women's Union members exchange plastic waste for gifts
With the motto "Each woman - One action for the environment", the Women's Union at all levels has promoted propaganda and mobilized members to change their consumption habits, limit the use of nylon bags and disposable plastic products, actively classify waste at source, etc. The activities are effectively integrated into the Campaign "Building a family of 5 no's, 3 clean's", creating a strong ripple effect in the community.
According to Ms. Le Thi Thoai - HVPN Ninh Thanh ward, Tay Ninh province, implementing the criteria of "5 no, 3 clean" brings positive results in the new rural construction program (XDNTM). People do not litter, in front of each house there is a self-managed trash can. Daily household waste is collected by people, put into covered bins, for the waste collection unit to take away for treatment.
“In the past time, the Ward Women's Association has actively promoted waste classification in households, guided students to classify organic waste, solid waste, and other types of waste for recycling and proper waste disposal. Thanks to that, the roads are clean, the surrounding living space is clean and beautiful, and I am happier and healthier,” said Ms. Thoai.
Propaganda for environmental protection and plastic waste recycling has been widely deployed by the Provincial Women's Union at all levels.
In addition, the Provincial Women's Union at all levels has also implemented many good models and creative methods such as Exchanging trash for gifts, Green savings, Flower routes, Household waste classification, etc., attracting a large number of members and people to participate, contributing to changing the awareness and thinking of the Women's Union as well as the people; helping to raise awareness, responsibility, self-awareness and volunteerism of people in environmental protection, making an important contribution to building new rural areas and civilized urban areas.
One of the typical models is the Green Living Quarter, which was deployed by the Provincial Women's Union from July 2022 in Ward IV, Tay Ninh City (old, now Tan Ninh Ward). The model aims to raise awareness and responsibility of officials, HVPNs and people in protecting the environment, gradually forming green living habits through simple, practical daily activities.
Participating in the model are 200 households in alleys 86, 88, 90 Cach Mang Thang Tam Street. Households were informed about the 2020 Law on Environmental Protection; instructed on waste classification at source; provided with trash bins and leaflets with practical instructions. Core students also actively participated in general cleaning activities in residential areas, instructed on waste classification at households, and encouraged the use of plastic baskets and cloth bags instead of nylon bags when going to the market.
Ms. Huynh Thi Le Chi - HVPN Tan Ninh ward, said: “Previously, I only collected plastic bottles and paper to sell scrap, not knowing how to properly classify waste. After the meeting, I understood the importance of classification. From then on, I started using environmentally friendly products. The model is very meaningful, helping me live more responsibly towards the environment.”
From the initial effectiveness, in 2023, the Green Living Neighborhood model was replicated by the Provincial Women's Union to 100% of communes and wards in the province, contributing to spreading green living habits to each community.
At the same time, the Green Savings model has also been widely deployed at the Association's facilities. Through the collection of scrap and recyclable waste, the branches raise funds to support poor women and children in difficult circumstances, contributing to the implementation of social security work in the locality. To date, the fund from the sale of scrap has reached 1.5 billion VND.
Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Van - Vice President of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, President of the Provincial Women's Union, and people planted flowers to beautify the road.
Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Van - Vice President of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, President of the Provincial Women's Union, said: "Determining environmental protection as an important task, contributing to building an increasingly "bright - green - clean - beautiful" living environment, actively contributing to the new rural construction movement in the locality, in the coming time, we will continue to replicate and effectively implement models associated with the Campaign "Building a family of 5 no, 3 clean". Thereby, helping people raise awareness of environmental protection, actively prevent acts of environmental pollution, improve the quality of life, build new rural areas in sustainable and developed rural areas"./.
