Thung Bang reservoir project is promoting investment efficiency.
Thung Bang Reservoir in Cam Ngoc Commune (Cam Thuy) has a capacity of about 3.902 million m3 of water, and is one of the important irrigation works serving agricultural production and daily life of people in the area. However, after many years of exploitation, the work has seriously degraded, posing a potential risk of insecurity during management and operation. This situation not only makes it difficult to ensure the safety of the dam but also affects the storage and supply of water for production and daily life.
Faced with that situation, in 2021, the project was invested in repairing and upgrading through the Dam Safety Improvement and Repair Project (WB8) using loans from the WB and counterpart funds from the province with a total investment of more than 15 billion VND. From this source of capital, the project was invested in synchronously upgrading many items such as: Renewing the spillway, management house, operation management road, water intake culvert, reinforcing the downstream slope with dry paving stones and pouring concrete on the dam surface... In 2023, the Thung Bang reservoir project was completed, put into use and is effectively promoting investment capital, storing and providing stable irrigation water for 410 hectares of crops in the project area. Not only that, the project also ensures flood regulation during the rainy and stormy season.
Ms. Bui Thi Hue in Song Nga village, Cam Ngoc commune (Cam Thuy) said: “Since the Thung Bang reservoir project was upgraded and put into use, local people have had a stable source of water for agricultural production and daily life. In addition, with its natural beauty and improved environment, the lake is gradually becoming an attractive destination for tourists .”
Implementing the Dam Reservoir Safety Improvement Project (WB8), from 2019 to present, Thanh Hoa province has been selected to participate in 3 sub-projects with 24 large and small dams invested in repair and upgrade. These works are distributed in Thuong Xuan, Ngoc Lac, Cam Thuy, Nhu Thanh, Nhu Xuan, Thach Thanh districts, Nghi Son town, Trieu Son, Ha Trung and Tho Xuan. These are all areas with complex terrain, often affected by natural disasters and floods, so investing in and upgrading the dam system is extremely necessary and urgent. The total cost of implementing the works is 487.36 billion VND, of which the loan capital from the WB is more than 461.9 billion VND, the rest is counterpart capital from the provincial budget. To date, 100% of the works have been completed and handed over for use on schedule, ensuring quality. According to local assessments, the dams after being repaired and upgraded are all of good quality and have shown remarkable effectiveness, especially in ensuring the safety of dams and downstream areas during the rainy and stormy season. These projects have contributed to improving the capacity to store and regulate water for irrigation in agricultural production and the people's domestic water needs.
Director of the Project Management Board for Investment in Construction of Agricultural Works and Rural Development of Thanh Hoa Province Cao Bat Chi said: “After being invested in repairing and upgrading from WB8 capital and the province's counterpart capital, the reservoirs have shown clear effectiveness in ensuring the safety of the works, providing stable irrigation water, while improving the environmental landscape and improving the lives of people in the project area. Thanks to that, people feel more secure when the rainy and stormy season comes, are more proactive in production and gradually improve their livelihoods, develop the local socio-economy in a sustainable direction. In addition, the repaired and upgraded dams also contribute to improving the province's capacity to respond to climate change and ensure water security.”
