Sharing at the direct and online meeting between the Hanoi Food Safety Steering Committee and districts, towns, and cities, a representative of the Hanoi Police said that food safety violations are becoming increasingly complicated.

Citing evidence of a trafficking ring of more than 10 tons of “dirty” sausages that was recently arrested, a representative of the Hanoi Police informed that this ring started from a shop at the school gate. Afterwards, the police force followed the trail, found 5-6 leads and discovered a warehouse containing more than 10 tons of “dirty” sausages.

The authorities tested the sausages by leaving them in the sun for 7 days. The results showed that the sausages did not spoil or smell. The authorities suspect that formalin was used to preserve the sausages. If all of these sausages were sold at the stores and grocery stores at the school gates, the number of children whose health would be affected would be very large.

Regarding this issue, Chu Xuan Kien, Director of the Hanoi Market Management Department, also said that on the afternoon of June 4, the market management force had seized more than 1 ton of "dirty" food in Tay Ho district. Currently, the number of food production and trading establishments is increasing, but the number of people working on food safety assurance is very small.

"The most effective way to communicate is to let people take pictures and hand them over to local authorities to thoroughly handle violations," said Mr. Kien.
