Man United sprint before G hour

Manchester United's summer transfer window is going well, but it's far from perfect. Time waits.

MU need more than just one Cunha.

With just four weeks to go before the summer transfer window closes, Manchester United are entering a pivotal period in turning their rebuilding plans under Ruben Amorim into reality. They’ve started in the right direction, but to turn a positive summer transfer window into a fully successful one, the Red Devils need more speed, decisiveness – and some tough decisions.

Impressive first steps

Three new signings have arrived at Old Trafford, including two heavyweight Premier League signings: Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo - a duo who scored a combined 37 goals last season for Wolves and Brentford respectively. Both bring not only direct attacking ability but also fit into the high pressing system that Amorim wants to build.

With a total cost of over £120m, United have proven that their absence from European competition does not mean they are lacking in the transfer market. But it also puts them under a clear pressure: next season, they cannot afford to make mistakes.

It’s no surprise that United’s next target is a world-class centre-forward. And the name at the top of the list is Benjamin Sesko, the 22-year-old striker from RB Leipzig. With 21 goals last season, Sesko showed his goalscoring instincts in the Bundesliga - a promising sign, although he remains a big question mark in the Premier League.

Sesko is a target for MU.

United believe Sesko is the key to solving their problem of a negative goal difference in the last two seasons - a statistic that reflects a lack of finishing - and they are ready to go toe-to-toe with Newcastle, who had their first bid rejected by Leipzig.

Despite insisting they could sign Sesko without selling anyone else, to make way for a goalkeeper and a midfielder - two positions Amorim still wants to strengthen - United are forced to clear their squad. The problem is: they are short of buyers, not sellers.

So far, Marcus Rashford is the only big name to leave (on loan to Barcelona). Meanwhile, the “clearance group” – including Malacia, Sancho, Antony and especially Alejandro Garnacho – have yet to receive a formal offer. Garnacho is the biggest asset, with Chelsea interested, but the expected £50m price tag could see the deal dragged out until the last minute.

Zirkzee and Bayindir are also being considered for sale, while Rasmus Hojlund - who was once the club's number 9 hope - despite being rumored to be valued at £30 million, is still considered to be able to be kept for rotation.

Bryan Mbeumo has just joined Man United.

On the other hand, young players like Harry Amass or Toby Collyer are likely to leave the team on loan. But this only helps to reduce the load, not create a significant additional budget.

Amorim and the days of decision

Ruben Amorim did not come to Old Trafford to patch things up. He brought a philosophy, a specific playing structure, and needed the right people to make it the identity of Man United.

But with time running out, markets changing, and media pressure mounting, “long-term plans” need to be made with short-term, but precise, decisions. Sesko’s presence – or absence – will shape how Amorim builds its attack.

But it doesn't stop there, how Man United solve the problem of excess players in midfield, the future of "flops" like Sancho or Antony, and the ability to purify the squad to make room for tactical pillars, will clearly reflect the organizational capacity of the new leadership.

The remaining four weeks are not just a transfer window, but also the first test for Amorim and United’s post-Europa structure. The dream of building a “new United” cannot wait – it needs to be pushed forward this summer.
