The family of Mr. Le Van Thien in Phong Dao street, Ninh Son ward, Hoa Lu city is one of the typical families in the voluntary blood donation movement, receiving a Certificate of Merit from the Provincial People's Committee. Mr. Thien's family has 4 members, all 4 of whom have participated in voluntary blood donation with a total of over 50 times, Mr. Thien himself has donated blood nearly 30 times.
Sharing about this happiness, Mr. Thien said: In the hustle and bustle of life, in the rush of work, sometimes we forget that we lack care and time for our family. Therefore, when we work together to do good, directing the whole family to community activities will also be an opportunity to warm the feelings between parents and children, together light the fire of kindness in the heart and build a happy family. Each individual, a family doing good deeds will contribute to spreading and building a united and happy community.
From not knowing much about the voluntary movement, Mr. Thien's wife, Ms. Bui Thi Minh, has now become an active volunteer in the local voluntary movement.
Ms. Minh shared: Before, I was also worried that donating blood would affect my health, however, Mr. Thien inspired me, provided me with correct information about blood donation, and took me along to participate in blood donation...
Having witnessed so many people with noble hearts, dedicating their time and precious blood to help revive patients, my awareness and attitude towards blood donation has changed. Not only did I support my husband to participate, but I also started donating blood. When my children were old enough, I also encouraged them to participate.
Up to now, my whole family regularly participates in blood donation campaigns whenever the locality organizes them. Seeing patients healthy and saved from donated blood, I have more motivation to promote blood donation to my relatives, colleagues and neighbors to join in donating blood to save lives.
Mr. Do Cong Chien is working in the health sector and has participated in HMTN nearly 30 times in the past 10 years. Not only participating in HMTN, Mr. Chien also actively encourages his brothers, friends, and colleagues to participate.
Mr. Chien is also the Chairman of the White Blouse + Ninh Binh Health Sector HMTN Club, established in 2023, with the core being doctors, medical staff and some volunteers from other agencies and units. The club currently has more than 100 members.
Under the direct guidance of the Department of Health and the Provincial Steering Committee for Blood Donation, the Club is a vanguard force in propaganda, mobilization, and organization of blood donation, especially emergency blood donation programs at the call of the Provincial Red Cross (the standing agency of the Provincial Steering Committee for Blood Donation).
Mr. Do Cong Chien said: Every year, the Club donates hundreds of units of blood to patients, thereby contributing to spreading the blood donation movement into a widespread movement throughout society, demonstrating the spirit of "mutual love and support", ready to share and volunteer for community life.
On the occasion of International Blood Donor Day June 14, 2 families and 1 individual in the Club were honored and rewarded by the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Steering Committee for Blood Donation. The positive contributions of the outstanding volunteers have contributed to the strong development of the province's blood donation movement.
In the past 5 years, in our province, more than 70,000 volunteers have registered to donate blood and have received 60,000 units of blood (nearly 15,000 liters of blood); in the first 5 months of 2025 alone, the whole province has received 6,000 units of blood, reaching 60% of the yearly plan; promptly responding to emergency and treatment of patients at hospitals in the province, and at the same time sharing with central hospitals.
During the most difficult times, such as the summer; before, during and after Tet, our province still ensures blood safety. Creating the good results of the voluntary blood donation movement is the enthusiasm, responsibility, and silent giving of volunteers.
With the propaganda and mobilization motto "Slow and steady wins the race", awareness of the work of voluntary blood donation is changing more and more. The voluntary blood donation movement has spread widely from the province to villages, hamlets, agencies, units, schools; families and clans.
Volunteers come to the blood donation movement regardless of gender or profession; they only have one thought: "Every drop of blood given, a life remains".
Comrade Bui Trong Ky, Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society, Deputy Head of the Provincial Voluntary Blood Donation Mobilization Committee, said: Recently, the Provincial Voluntary Blood Donation Mobilization Committee organized a ceremony to honor and reward 200 outstanding individuals and families who have made many positive contributions to the voluntary blood donation movement. The noble actions of the volunteers have spread love for the sick.
Although the voluntary blood donation movement in the province has achieved many results, currently only 1.3% of the population participates in voluntary blood donation. According to the recommendation of the World Health Organization, a country or a locality must have at least 2% of the population participating in voluntary blood donation (with at least 20,000 units of blood/year) to ensure blood safety.
Therefore, in order to promptly meet the huge demand for blood on a regular and continuous basis, everyone needs to pay attention to the voluntary blood donation movement; the exemplary and active role of volunteers will contribute significantly to spreading and lighting the "fire" of humanity, thereby mobilizing more individuals in the community to participate in blood donation, helping to revive the lives of patients.
