The Peruvian government is stepping up efforts to control dengue fever, as deaths from the disease have tripled this year compared to the same period last year.

This week, the Peruvian government passed an "emergency decree" authorizing special measures to speed up the implementation of a plan to combat the severe dengue epidemic.

According to the Peruvian Ministry of Health , as of April 11, the country had recorded 117 deaths from dengue fever, a sharp increase compared to 33 cases in the same period last year. In addition, suspected cases of the disease also tripled, reaching about 135,000 cases.

In recent days, Peruvian health officials have deployed mosquito-killing chemicals in poor neighborhoods across the capital Lima, including cemeteries, to prevent the spread of dengue fever.

According to experts, the above figures in Peru are alarming because they show the risk that Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes carrying the Dengue virus can spread dengue fever to areas that have never recorded cases before.

The highest number of cases have been recorded in coastal areas and northern Peru, including the city of Lima.

According to disease researcher Augusto Tarazona of the University of Lima (Peru), mosquitoes have adapted to climate change and are reproducing faster than in previous years.

In terms of population size, with an incidence of 330.27 cases/100,000 people, the number of cases and deaths due to dengue fever in Peru is higher than both Brazil and Argentina.
