Mr. Le Thanh Hai was removed from his position as former Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

The Prime Minister decided to remove Mr. Le Thanh Hai from his position as former Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and other positions due to violations and shortcomings in his work.

According to the Prime Minister 's decision dated August 12, the disciplinary period for Mr. Hai is calculated from May 21, 2024.

On the same day, the Prime Minister forced Mr. Nguyen Ba Hoan, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (former Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs) to resign due to violations and shortcomings and was expelled from the Party by the Secretariat.

In mid-May 2024, the Central Committee decided to remove all Party positions of Mr. Le Thanh Hai, former member of the Politburo , former Secretary of the City Party Committee, former Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

According to the assessment of the Politburo and the Secretariat, Mr. Hai and Messrs. Le Hoang Quan and Nguyen Thanh Phong - former members of the Party Central Committee and former Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - violated the principle of democratic centralism, Party regulations, laws; regulations on what Party members are not allowed to do and the responsibility to set an example. They were also irresponsible and lax in leadership, allowing many violations and shortcomings to occur in the Party Committee and the city government.

These violations caused "serious consequences, risk of damage and huge loss of State money and assets, leading to serious and especially serious criminal cases". Many party organizations, officials and party members were disciplined and criminally prosecuted, causing public outrage and reducing the reputation of the party organization and the city government.

Mr. Le Thanh Hai, 75 years old this year, is from Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province. He is a member of the Politburo for the 10th and 11th terms, and a member of the Central Committee for the 9th and 11th terms. His career has been closely associated with Ho Chi Minh City through many leadership positions such as Vice Chairman, Chairman of the City People's Committee, and Secretary of the City Party Committee for two terms 2005-2010, 2010-2015.

In March 2020, Mr. Le Thanh Hai was removed from his position as former Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2010-2015 period due to responsibility for violations in leading and directing investment in the Thu Thiem new urban area.
