The automatic feeding system is designed from the outside leading into the barn, helping to ensure hygiene.

Mr. Hung was born in 1965. After being discharged from the army in 1988, he returned to his hometown to develop his family's economy . At first, he cultivated a few fields and worked as a construction worker, but his income was not worth much.

In 2019, after researching and understanding the market, Mr. Hung discussed with his children, borrowed more than 2 billion VND from the bank and relatives to invest in a farm of more than 3,000 m² to raise commercial chickens. He researched, found a business and was supported by this business with breeds, food, farming techniques, etc.

His family raised 8,000 chickens in the first batch. “Before that, the family only raised a few dozen chickens, so if the chickens died, the loss was not significant. Raising thousands of chickens made the family always worried about disease and output…”, Mr. Hung said.

With perseverance, working and learning at the same time, the first batch of chickens brought in a profit of more than 70 million VND for his family. In the second year, he started raising 2 batches of chickens. The chicken breeds that Mr. Hung raised were mainly sugarcane chickens and crossbred fighting chickens.

The most feared thing about raising chickens is disease, especially diseases that are difficult to cure, spread quickly, cause chickens to die quickly, and cause great damage, so Mr. Hung pays special attention to keeping the barn and surrounding environment clean. From the beginning, Mr. Hung built the farm on converted land outside the field, separate from the residential area. Surrounding the farm are fish ponds, melon fields, rice fields, etc., so the environment is fresh and airy. He fully vaccinates each flock of chickens when they are imported.

The farm always complies with isolation measures against the source of the epidemic. Every 1-2 days, he disinfects the entire farm once. For chicken manure, his family treats it with probiotics, then sells it to surrounding households to fertilize rice and crops. The barn is meticulously treated when the flock is spread out, such as: washing with soap, sprinkling lime, spraying, fumigating, etc. According to Mr. Hung, to ensure disease safety, the barn must be treated for at least 14 days before bringing in another batch of chickens.

Mr. Hung checks the health of the chickens about to be sold.

Despite his meticulous work, his family could not avoid risks. In 2022, during a heavy rainstorm, lightning struck the ventilation fan system, causing 6,000 chickens (each weighing about 3 kg) to suffocate, causing a loss of 1.4 billion VND. Despite the great loss, he was not discouraged, he reinforced the automatic warning system, invested in 6 more generators and power lines, 10 backup industrial fans, etc.

“If there is a power outage, I have experience in handling it. That is to immediately open the door and break the cooling system so the chickens don’t suffocate,” he said.

Mr. Hung's family currently has 4 farms with a total of 40,000 chickens. The entire system of feeding and drinking troughs for chickens is automated, so it does not require much effort. Each batch of chickens lasts from 115 to 120 days before being sold. Currently, his family's chickens are purchased as food for sale to supermarkets and food businesses. The current selling price of chickens is more than 60,000 VND/kg. After deducting expenses, his family earns a profit of about 560 million VND/year. With this source of income, Mr. Hung has become a typical economic model in the commune.

Mr. Hoang Van Chen, Chairman of the Veterans Association of Thuong Quan Commune, said that Mr. Hung is not only a typical economic member but is also willing to help other families in the locality, even in other places such as Hai Phong , Quang Ninh... to build a model of a broiler farm.
