Onana wants to stay at MU. |
AS Monaco are keen to sign Onana this summer, but the Guardian reports the Cameroonian has committed his future to Manchester United and wants to prove his worth under Ruben Amorim next season.
At the end of last season, coach Amorim said he would review every position in the squad, including Onana's place. He said: "We will evaluate every position in the squad. United need to improve. You can't change all the players, but you need to improve the quality of each position on the pitch. The same goes for the goalkeeper; we can work with Andre. He has shown that he is a top player at Inter."
Monaco's interest in Onana comes at a time when Emiliano Martinez is said to be keen on joining Manchester United. The Argentine goalkeeper could leave Aston Villa this summer to join a bigger club.
A source told The Sun : "Martinez is close to Lisandro Martinez in the Argentina national team and is keen on a move to United. He has turned down several other lucrative offers just to wait for this opportunity. Amorim also wanted to sign Martinez in 2020 when he was still in charge of Sporting."
However, if they want to recruit Martinez, MU will have to sell Onana. Altay Bayindir, Onana's reserve goalkeeper, is also expected to leave Old Trafford in this transfer window.
With Monaco, the team considered recruiting Djordje Petrovic from Chelsea when they could not convince Onana to play.
