Courtois closes future

Ahead of the match against Pachuca in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup™, Courtois spoke about his future at Real Madrid. He said: “I hope to extend. I am very happy at Real Madrid, playing here is a dream, and every year that passes is another dream. I am always ready to serve the club, they know that I want to stay here, and I hope to retire here."

After an ACL injury that seemed to derail the entire 2023/24 season, Courtois returned and immediately proved his worth to Real Madrid. Spanish media reported that Real were ready to break the rules by offering a two-year extension, keeping Courtois until 2028 - that is, until he turns 36.

Since arriving in Madrid in 2018, Courtois has played 282 games and won every club trophy a goalkeeper could dream of. He has been a reliable stopper under Carlo Ancelotti and now Xabi Alonso.

Asked about the current Real Madrid squad needing time to adapt under Xabi Alonso, Courtois said: “We have been training for a week and are getting closer to what the coach wants. We watch videos , have meetings and are ready to experiment and make mistakes. Xabi has said that we have to go out there to win, give our all and wait for the results.”

Real Madrid and Al Hilal are currently second in Group H with 1 point, 2 points behind the leading team Salzburg. In the early morning of June 23, Alonso and his team will face Pachuca.
