Residents of Ukraine's capital Kiev heard explosions early on October 30, while regional authorities reported a fire caused by an attack by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram that emergency services "have been dispatched to the scene".
Witnesses heard a series of explosions in areas where air defense units appeared to be operating, Reuters news agency reported.
Previously, on October 29, the Ukrainian Parliament voted to extend the state of war and mobilization order for another 90 days, until February 7, 2025.
Ukraine imposed a state of war and national military mobilization on February 24, 2022, as Russia launched a special military operation in the Eastern European country. Since then, the country's parliament has extended the state of war 12 times. The current mobilization is in effect until November 9.
Due to the above situation, Ukraine has not held elections, even though the incumbent President Volodymyr Zelensky's term expired on May 31 this year.
In another related development, on the same day, The New York Times reported that in the secret section of the "Victory Plan" to strengthen Ukraine's defense, President Zelensky asked the US to provide Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of up to 2,400 km.
These weapons will reportedly form an important part of a so-called “non-nuclear deterrence package” aimed at boosting Kiev’s defense capabilities amid the current conflict.
Mr Zelensky’s request has been met with mixed reactions in Washington, with a senior US official calling the request “absolutely impossible”.
According to the official, transferring such powerful long-range weapons to a country in conflict could aggravate the international situation and create serious risks in relations between the US and other world powers.
Meanwhile, experts say that despite US support for Ukraine, the provision of Tomahawk missiles is unlikely because they are highly destructive and strategic, making the transfer an extremely sensitive issue for leaders in Washington.
