Habits that easily cause hemorrhoids

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên18/06/2024

Hemorrhoids are more common than we think. Statistics from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (USA) show that about 50% of middle-aged and elderly people are suffering from hemorrhoids. Depending on the severity and type of hemorrhoids, the disease can have a major impact on health or not, according to the health website Medical News Today (UK).

Prolonged constipation can easily cause hemorrhoids because it makes the sufferer strain harder when defecating.

One thing people can do to reduce their risk of hemorrhoids is to avoid straining during bowel movements. A study published in the World Journal of Gastroenterology found that straining during bowel movements increases pressure in the abdomen.

This condition, if left untreated for a long time, will put pressure on the rectal veins, thereby restricting blood flow back to the heart. As a result, the rectal veins will swell and cause hemorrhoids.

For some people, the discomfort caused by hemorrhoids is relatively mild. Meanwhile, for others, it is extremely uncomfortable, especially in severe cases, causing hemorrhoids to prolapse. At that time, internal hemorrhoids will bulge out of the anus and cause pain.

To reduce the risk of hemorrhoids , people should not push too hard when defecating. In some cases, we need to push to complete defecation soon. These cases are often due to being in a hurry and not having much time. But next time, we should avoid this and not let it become a habit.

However, there is one condition that makes straining during bowel movements a regular occurrence, and that is constipation. If constipation persists, intervention, such as medication, is needed.

In addition to straining, factors that increase the risk of hemorrhoids include sitting too much, lack of water, drinking too much alcohol, eating too little fiber, eating spicy foods regularly, and being overweight. Therefore, changing your lifestyle to a healthier one will significantly reduce the risk of hemorrhoids.

Specifically, people need to exercise regularly. If you have to do jobs that require a lot of sitting, stand up and walk around occasionally to reduce pressure on the anal veins. The daily diet should prioritize foods rich in fiber such as vegetables and fruits, combined with drinking plenty of water. This way of eating will help reduce constipation, thereby preventing the risk of hemorrhoids, according to Medical News Today.
