For many years, every major holiday, veteran Vo Tuan Thung (Nam Trach commune, Quang Tri province) has spent time at the Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery visiting his comrades' graves.

Offering incense in memory, Mr. Thung was moved: “Back then, Truong Son Road was a fierce battlefield. Bombs and bullets plowed through the land, and smoke and fire were endless. We knew that going to Truong Son meant not knowing when we would return, but at that time, thousands of young people and I still carried our backpacks and set out to follow the sacred call of the Fatherland. I was lucky to return, but my comrades will forever remain here.”

As a promise, every year, the footsteps of veterans and people from all over the country come to Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery. From the homeland of quan ho, the Ho Chi Minh Trail Truong Son Traditional Association in Bac Ninh province organized a journey to the South to revisit the old battlefield. When arriving at Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery, many officers and soldiers burst into tears before thousands of martyrs' graves lying side by side, stretching across the immense hills...

Mr. Vu Xuan Nham, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh Trail Truong Son Traditional Association in Bac Ninh province shared: “This year marks the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification. I and 50 members of the Ho Chi Minh Trail Truong Son Traditional Association in Bac Ninh province organized a trip to the source, to the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery to offer incense in memory of our comrades. Having gone through life and death on this land, some of us were lucky enough to live until the day of peace , but many others have remained here forever. As the years have passed, Truong Son has always been an unforgettable song of the soldiers' lives, becoming even more urgent in the days of July. In front of the souls of our comrades, when lighting incense in memory, we cherish even more the value of peace that was exchanged for the youth and blood of ourselves and our comrades.”

In July, among the stream of people returning to their roots, there were also more than 500 students from Le Thuy High School (Quang Tri Province). From early morning, the students lined up neatly to offer incense sticks in memory of heroes and martyrs. Mr. Phan Van Duc, Deputy Secretary of the Le Thuy High School Youth Union, said: “This is the way the school’s Youth Union educates students, union members, and young people about revolutionary traditions. Through trips to the roots like this, students will better understand the heroic history of the nation, thereby appreciating the value of peace, and striving to study and practice to contribute to building their homeland.”

Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery is also one of the traditional addresses that a group of young people at Cua Tung High School (Quang Tri province) always spend time visiting and cleaning each martyr's grave. Ngo Son Tung, class 11A6 shared: "Visiting Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery has become an indispensable part of the spiritual life of my family as well as the people of Quang Tri. Through that, our young generation understands more deeply the lesson of sacrifice, fostering national pride, love for homeland and country. My friends and I are also making a video introducing Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery with the desire to spread the spirit of patriotism and the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" to young people".
