Many means of public transport in Ho Chi Minh City are free on the occasion of September 2nd

(Chinhphu.vn) - The Ho Chi Minh City Public Transport Management Center said that from September 1-2, people will be exempted from paying for tickets on many bus routes; meanwhile, metro line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) will be exempted from paying for tickets on September 2.

The program not only brings convenience and safety but also an opportunity for people to join hands to build a more transparent and effective public transport system.

Specifically, passengers traveling by buses of Phuong Trang Futa BusLines Joint Stock Company will be exempted from paying for tickets for 2 days (from September 1 to September 2). The exemption applies to all bus routes operated by this company in Ho Chi Minh City. Currently, Phuong Trang Company is operating 17 bus routes connecting to Metro Line 1, 35 new routes put into operation from August 1, 2025, and 1 route serving passengers at Tan Son Nhat Airport.

In addition, passengers traveling on routes operated by VinBus Ecological Transport Services Company Limited (VinBus) will also receive free bus tickets for 2 days from September 1-2, including routes 33, 150 and D4.

Previously, Urban Railway Company No. 1 (the operator of metro line No. 1) announced that to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day, the unit would waive 100% of ticket prices for all train passengers on September 2.

Accordingly, on September 2, people using Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) only need to use their citizen ID card with chip to scan at the gate or create an "Independent" QR code on the HCMC Metro HURC application to get free tickets.

To meet the increased travel demand during the holiday, Metro Line 1 will extend operating hours from 5am to 11pm and increase train frequency.

On September 1 and 2 alone, Metro Line 1 will operate 264 trips per day, an increase of more than 30 trips compared to normal days, to best serve the travel, entertainment and sightseeing needs of the city's residents.

In addition to traveling by train on Metro Line 1, visitors also have the opportunity to shop at Ben Thanh Metro Station with 500 prestigious brands of many international brands, genuine distribution with a series of attractive promotions up to 80%. The sales program at Ben Thanh Station is part of the brand promotion event being implemented in many locations and large shopping centers in Ho Chi Minh City on the occasion of National Day, September 2.

In addition to the free ticket program, Metro Line 1 One Member Co., Ltd. - the operator of Metro Line 1 also updated and expanded with 8 payment methods, from buying tickets at vending machines, ticket counters, kiosks, scanning QR codes via e-wallets to paying directly at the gate with bank cards or mobile devices.

From August 29, the entire route officially put into operation 44 automatic paper ticket kiosks and deployed the Metro Miniapp on the MoMo application to help passengers easily buy single-trip tickets, daily tickets, monthly tickets as well as link monthly tickets with their citizen identification cards.

To promote cashless payment methods, from September 15, 2025, the Company will pilot the discontinuation of paper tickets containing QR codes at ticket counters at the City Theater, Ba Son, Van Thanh and Phuoc Long stations. Passengers needing assistance will be guided and assisted by station staff.
