According to the reporter's observations, every morning, many spontaneous meat stalls spring up along roads such as Vu Ngoc Phan, Nguyen Dinh Trong, near Hoa Khanh market. Sellers use tarpaulins, nylon sheets or wooden boards placed on the ground to display meat for sale. The situation of meat drying in the sun, without cover, not properly preserved, along with dust and flies swarming around is offensive and worrying.
Mr. Nguyen Cao Cuong, who lives on Au Co Street (Lien Chieu Ward), said: “If pork is sold everywhere on the street without veterinary quarantine, how can food safety be guaranteed?” According to Mr. Hai, this is an act of disregard for food hygiene regulations, causing harm to consumers and seriously affecting public health.
Not only causing concerns about hygiene, spontaneous meat trading also creates unhealthy competition with small traders inside the market.
A trader at Hoa Khanh market said: “We fully comply with the regulations, from renting stalls, checking the origin of goods to cleaning the business area. Meanwhile, street vendors are not subject to any management, and sell at cheaper prices, which greatly affects trading activities in the market. We hope that the authorities will soon take serious action to handle this situation.”
A similar situation is also happening in the area of Lam Quang Thu Street and Kinh Duong Vuong Street (Thanh Khe Ward). Ms. Nguyen Huong Giang, a resident of Apartment Building 1, shared: “Most of the street meat vendors are small households, do not have a business license, do not undergo veterinary inspection, and operate spontaneously. Some points of sale even place meat right next to the drainage, an area polluted by wastewater and household waste. The price of meat at street sales points is often lower than in the market, causing many people to ignore food safety and hygiene factors because of cheapness. This is a type of food that directly affects human health and needs to be strictly controlled. I hope that local authorities will increase inspection and strictly handle violations.”
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Tran Cong Nguyen, Chairman of Lien Chieu Ward People's Committee, said that after receiving feedback from the people, in the coming time, the Ward People's Committee will coordinate with functional forces to strengthen inspection and handling of cases of trading meat of unknown origin and not ensuring food hygiene and safety. At the same time, he advised people not to buy meat at street vendors to protect the health of themselves and their families.
According to the representative of the Thanh Khe Ward People's Committee, this is an issue under the authority of the locality. The situation of selling pork on the street cannot be allowed to continue, because this not only affects people's health but also spoils the urban beauty, negatively affecting efforts to build a civilized and clean city. To thoroughly handle this issue, in addition to strengthening inspections and strictly handling violations, local authorities will step up propaganda work to raise people's awareness in choosing safe food, with clear origins, inspected according to regulations, thereby contributing to building a safe, healthy and civilized living environment.
