Phuong Nhi (2nd from right) receives books to build a library at Tran Mai Ninh Secondary School.
With the viewpoint "There is no bad book, it's just that you haven't found the right book for you", coming to the "Reading Culture Ambassador" contest for the first time, Le Thi Phuong Nhi, born in 2012, a student of Tran Mai Ninh Secondary School (Hac Thanh Ward) shared about the book: "Rainbow Warrior" - a famous work by Indonesian writer Andrea Hirata. That is Phuong Nhi's favorite book. The book is not dense with philosophy but is a simple story that touches people's hearts. Those stories are introduced by Phuong Nhi in a close, easy-to-remember way through the video with an emotional, gentle introduction. With the investment in the contest and the passion to spread reading culture, Phuong Nhi's contest won the first prize in the Thanh Hoa Province Reading Culture Ambassador contest in 2025.
Meeting Phuong Nhi at her home, we were quite impressed with the open classroom space, combined with attractively arranged bookshelves that are easy to see. Discussing the book shared in the Reading Culture Ambassador contest, Phuong Nhi said: “Books are a treasure trove of human knowledge. When reading books, we will understand more about a human soul, a living situation, about lessons and experiences for ourselves. From the things learned from the book “Rainbow Warrior”, I want to spread many good values to everyone.”
“The book is my reward for my good academic performance. The book has a character that I admire: Ms. Mus is the one who gives me and maybe those who have read the book a great source of motivation. The lessons and teachings that Ms. Mus brings to her students in the story are also teachings for me and a message to all those who are holding the book. Those teachings have helped me become a good person,” Nhi added.
Along with the teachings of life lessons, the book tells the story of poor students who do not have access to books, they study in difficult learning conditions, the school can collapse at any time. Through that, the book spreads the message, hoping to light up the hope of going to school for children, especially children in difficult areas.
From this story, Phuong Nhi has shaped a great dream: to bring books to children, especially disadvantaged children in remote areas - where the journey to knowledge is still full of obstacles and shortages. Not stopping at personal feelings, Phuong Nhi gradually realizes her ideal through concrete and creative actions.
With a passion for reading, Nhi always chooses books as rewards and builds her own bookshelves. Nhi is always enthusiastic about telling her parents, siblings, and friends about the stories and lessons she feels from books. From there, she spreads her love of reading to her family and friends. At the same time, Nhi always actively participates in book donation activities and builds bookshelves at school and in the community. In particular, Nhi has self-studied, practiced speaking, presentation skills, and self-reading to realize her dream of building a youtube channel, introducing books with postcards, and talking about books. At school, Nhi participates in the small literature corner club, reading postcards with her friends to introduce books and lessons.
When asked why she loves books so much, Nhi answered with a lovely sincerity: “Reading books helps me feel relieved and relaxed, and at the same time helps me broaden my thinking and understand more about life. Thanks to reading books, I have more vocabulary to write, to speak, to confidently express myself.” Those shared words are not empty, but are confirmed by her good academic achievements and outstanding communication skills.
Phuong Nhi's homeroom teacher, Ms. Tran Thi Hien, said: "Phuong Nhi is a good student, diligent, and actively participates in school and class activities and movements. Nhi has a talent for expression and very good connection skills. She is not only diligent but also knows how to spread many positive things to people around her. When the class built an open library in the second floor lobby of the school so that students could read books during recess, Nhi not only proactively contributed books but also actively encouraged everyone to contribute books and arrange the library. In particular, Nhi and some friends created postcard programs introducing books and good stories in life and study."
The title of Thanh Hoa Province Reading Culture Ambassador is not only a worthy reward for Phuong Nhi’s efforts, but also a testament to the power of books - when passing through a young child’s soul, books can become a driving force for action, even arousing great ideals. At the same time, it affirms that books are not only a source of knowledge but also a companion, a “light to guide the way” for children to confidently live a beautiful and useful life.
