According to Apple Insider, a 49-year-old man in New South Wales was saved by his Apple Watch. Specifically, while surfing at Tallow Beach, Rick Shearman was swept out to sea by a strong wave, more than 1km from the mainland.

"I was caught in a couple of big waves and swept out to sea. I panicked and had cramps in the water. After about 20 minutes of struggling, I couldn't find a way back to shore and needed help," Shearman said.
At this point, Shearman used the emergency call function on his Apple Watch. He contacted the emergency rescue team and was rescued later.
"I got caught in the rip current and it was heading straight out to sea. I underestimated how big the wave was," said Shearman, an experienced swimmer.
Jimmy Keogh, who was part of the rescue team, said the Apple Watch was a "game changer".
"The search area is quite complex underwater. We could have spent many days and involved many more people without the support of this equipment," Keogh said.
