Video of My Ly 2 Primary Boarding School submerged in mud.
After the terrible flash flood in the mountainous region of Nghe An , many villages, schools and houses were buried and submerged in mud.
At My Ly 2 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities (My Ly Commune), the scene was devastated, the schoolyard was covered in mud. Under the roof that used to be filled with children's voices, now there was a high mass of mud and sand, burying all the desks, chairs, and books. People, teachers, and soldiers were busy digging the soil, scooping mud, trying to salvage every piece of belonging from the ruins.
Below are images captured by VTC News reporters in the first days after the flood. The water has just receded but the consequences are still severe.

Of the 24 schools and school sites damaged by storm No. 3 in Nghe An, My Ly 2 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities was the most severely affected. Mud buried most of the first floor, some sections up to 4 meters high.

Mr. Tran Sy Ha - Principal of the school said that this was the most historic flood he had ever witnessed. Looking at the school in disarray after the flood, he could only hold back his tears and come up with the fastest solution so as not to affect the students' studies.

"The roofs of the cafeteria and boarding house were washed away by the flood and almost completely filled with mud. The classrooms were almost completely covered with mud on the first floor, and the second floor was covered with a 1 meter high layer of mud," said Mr. Ha.

The reception office and parent reception office on the first floor were submerged in a thick layer of mud.

After the flood receded, the school's leadership promptly took note and came up with a solution.

The second floor floor cracked due to the impact of mud more than 1 meter above.

"It's really hard to say what we need now. First of all, blankets, tables and chairs, school supplies, cooking utensils, etc. If we can get it in time, that would be great. As for the damage, we estimate it to be around 1.8 billion VND. If we have the funds to rent machinery, we can complete the repair within a month, reaching about 80% of the original condition," Mr. Ha shared.

In addition to the classroom problem, the school currently has 11 boarding teachers. The boarding house was swept away by the flood, the teachers are having to find temporary housing.

Given the current situation, if it is not ready in time for the upcoming school year, the school will plan for the students to temporarily study at the village's cultural house.

"That is to say, if there is funding, it will be finished in a month, but at the moment, we don't know what will happen. In reality, most of the houses were washed away, the army and police are focusing on supporting the houses first, then the schools. Currently, the school's staff and teachers are proactively cleaning up, working day and night without rest," added the principal of My Ly 2 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities.
