This morning (June 8), more than 103,000 candidates took the Math exam - the final exam in the entrance exam for non-specialized public high schools in Hanoi for the 2025-2026 school year. Candidates took the Math exam in essay format for 120 minutes. The exam time started at 8:00 a.m.
At the end of the first exam day (June 7), most candidates assessed that this year's Literature exam was quite "easy", closely following the structure and format of the sample exam previously announced by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.
Nguyen Thu Trang, a student at Yen Hoa Secondary School, said the test was "quite easy", especially when compared to the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City. Trang said it was "right on target" when the question asked about students' ages, which was also the content the student had studied carefully. "I think we are seniors, so the test could ask about teachers, school, friends and student ages. With this test, I talked about my own class and friends," Trang said.
Regarding the English exam, Bui An Ngoc, a student at Tan Mai Secondary School, said that this year's exam was not difficult, and a score of 9 was completely within reach. "I found the exam to be within my ability, with only about 5-6 questions of a classification nature, many of which were close to real life," Ngoc said.
Hanoi students enter the final subject of the 2025 public 10th grade exam.
However, both Trang and Ngoc expressed their concerns before the final exam. "Although I have prepared carefully, I still feel pressured because Math is a subject that requires quick thinking and the ability to flexibly apply knowledge. I am worried that this year's exam will increase in difficulty or there will be many new types of questions that have never been seen in the sample exam," Ngoc said.
According to the Hanoi public 10th grade entrance exam plan, candidates will take 3 exams: Math, Literature, Foreign Language. The Math and Literature exams will be in essay format, with 120 minutes for each subject. For Foreign Language, candidates will take a 60-minute multiple choice test, choosing one of the following languages: English, French, German, Japanese, Korean.
Candidates for specialized schools will take an additional specialized subject exam on June 9.
The admission score for non-specialized schools is the total score of three subjects on a 10-point scale, without multiplying the coefficient with priority and incentive points (if any). This is a new score compared to previous years. For specialized schools, the admission score is the total of four subjects, for specialized subjects, the coefficient is two, similar to every year.
This year, Hanoi has about 127,000 junior high school graduates, of whom about 103,000 registered for the 10th grade public high school entrance exam. According to the Department of Education and Training, at least 64% of students registered for the exam passed the 10th grade public high school entrance exam, equivalent to more than 81,000 students.
It is expected that around July 4-6, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will simultaneously announce the exam scores and grade 10 benchmark scores. Successful candidates will confirm their enrollment from July 10-12.
