The metallurgical industry is of strategic importance to Russia.

This was the statement of the head of the Russian State at an event marking the anniversary of Russian Metallurgy Day.

President Putin highly appreciated the contribution of the domestic metallurgical workforce and stressed that the metallurgical industry is of strategic importance for the whole of Russia, in order to build industrial potential, implement major infrastructure projects and equip the army.

Mr Putin said that it is now necessary to carry out a deep modernization of metallurgical production facilities. In recent years, the metallurgical industry in the Russian Federation has become increasingly high-tech, opening up new opportunities in many areas, from aviation and space travel to electronics and medicine.

The President also noted that it is important for metallurgical enterprises to actively convert to modern technology and equipment to meet the requirements of the "Clean Air" project that the government is implementing. To achieve that, manufacturers will fully fulfill their obligations to update technology and minimize harmful impacts on the environment.

According to observers, European Union (EU) countries cannot do without metals from Russia and sanctions have made it difficult for the EU to buy goods on the world market, which is more expensive and also more difficult in terms of logistics.

Meanwhile, the metallurgical industry in the Russian Federation, under sanctions conditions, successfully coped with large-scale tasks, including the substitution of imported raw materials.

Moreover, Russia has resources of aluminum, copper, and nickel, which are indispensable metals in the transition to a green economy and sustainable development.

Their properties make these metals indispensable in the production of next-generation vehicles, energy storage systems, renewable energy sources, infrastructure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and climate change adaptation technologies.

In addition, metallurgical complexes play a key role in the economy of the Russian Federation, contributing to the development of related industries, strengthening Russia's defense capabilities and improving the well-being of millions of Russians.

Russian Metallurgy Day was established by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on September 28, 1957 and to this day it is traditionally held on the third Sunday of July.
